IMO I would first solve the function issues you have outlined and then address the style issues you have requested. As with every design problem there may be compromises to get most of what you've listed, but function shouldn't be one of them. I've attached a layout and some examples of furnishings & unique equipment that may accommodate many of your requests. Please carefully think about keeping a frankly huge armoire, that you still have to spend time and money to refinish, to hold a printer that could reasonably fit on a small shelf. The printers seem to get smaller everyday as do the computers/laptops. How many of us got stuck with armoires to hold huge TVs? The local Goodwill where I live won't even take armoires anymore because no one wants them in their homes. That item in particular, from my perspective as a designer, is like fitting a square peg in a round hole. I often look to the RV industry to provide me with clever equipment that does double duty, like hidden work surfaces that can pull out of standard cabinets when needed, and slide away when not in use. I think you can assemble a workable room, with the special style you're looking for & even that special settee, but I would build in files and storage which is always needed, find a clever way to close away your DH clutter so you don't have to nag, & look for high tech items to help you reach you goals. Built in wall units are not inexpensive, but everything doesn't need to be custom. Cabinets from any modular kitchen cabinet manufacturer, even IKEA, could be used to assemble your workstations. Can your fridge door hinges switch sides? Most can. If so, I suggest you consider a cabinet between the wall and the fridge to allow the door to swing fully open with the hinges switched. It will make cooking more efficient if the door swings open to the side of the kitchen where you're actually working instead of having to walk around it. I'm not sure how wide the cabinet needs to be to ensure the door fully opens but we can probably help you find that information if you're interested. Personally, I would find that really aggravating. I really like your plan. I can't comment about the 36" vs. 30" range because I've only had 30" and they have always worked fine for me even though I cook a lot. Maybe if I ever tried a 36", I'd never wanna go back so maybe that's best, lol. I do want to inform you that it's suggested that your range hood be 6" wider than your cooktop, 3" on each side. So you would need to redraw your 30" range option with a 36" hood, and your 36" range with a 42" hood. Of course, this starts increasing expenses so you might want to factor that into your decision. This is because a range wider than a hood captures more smoke, steam, grease and odors. The laws of physics are that these broaden as they rise so a hood the same width as the range doesn't fully capture them. Your kitchen will smell cleaner and actually be cleaner without you having to clean the cabinets as often when there is less grease floating around.

I thought of that, but then that other room would have nothing in it but a tiny futon, a guitar (hanging on the wall), and a small keyboard stand... and I already own the table and chairs!

Another vote for redoing this plan. I would not like a tub just hanging out in a large room, nor would I want that large open expanse of nothingness--it seems like a waste of space. And the shower bump out and access is not optimal. There is no indication of what rooms are adjacent to the bathroom and how it relates to the rest of the house. I'll add another comment--vaulted ceilings in a bathroom may look nice, but believe me when I say that they are not all that practical. In the winter, all the heat will rise and it could be difficult to keep it warm, especially if those are exterior walls. You say you haven't spoken to the designer yet--who designed the house? You, the designer or an architect?
