Help,,,my things just don't look right in my new house
Comments (17)Wow guys... Thanks for all of the great suggestions and fun links! In our last home, the walls were sage green. It looked beautiful with our things. I was leaning toward more of a goldy tan here just for a change and for more versatility. My fear is that if I keep my current color theme that it will be out of style soon. I am seeing so many people painting over their golds and moving toward the greys and blue/greens. I love this look and see it in many of my inspiration pics. If I totally changed gears, I would likely need to get a new rug. So many decisions! I do love the look/ feel of soofrivers home. I love the wainscoting and her light walls, which is odd considering I am a color person. I had a blast going through the cottage of the month site- those are some amazing places! I was considering adding some wainscoting, but wasn't sure where. I am going to need major help with window treatments, as I really struggle with them. I do know that DH will not want any of the window covered. As for things I like...I love anything out of the Pottery Barn catalog and also like a mix with some antiques. Thank you!!!...See MoreI just squeezed a lot of new furniture into a very small room!
Comments (57)nancy-- thank you! And yes, so true . . .so fast! lazy-- I agree with everything you've said. Those things have bothered me as well. Most of the books sticking out I can't change, but someday I will (when the kids are older). I have been looking for larger pieces for the FP and other wall for a long time, ditto for what goes on the FP. Just too hard to find things without a lot of shopping trips to the flea market, and I rarely get to do that! The curtains will change eventually, too. Now I can go in a totally different direction with color, when I have the time and $! val, I see where you are going with the FP but there isn't enough room to do that (such a small room). If I can someday get an ottoman I will remove the table! amj, I will get that pic up for you soon. It does not really look built in though . . .it is nowhere near what I'd like it to look like in terms of how it is arranged, either. lori, thank you-- you rooms have always been very inspirational to me. flower, I would like the floor length idea but not sure how it would work with the chairs against the wall . . .no room to push them far enough out so that the curtains would not be smooshed. Ideas? Thank you again, everyone!!...See MorePatio update (with pics!) and need advice on finishing touches
Comments (11)Thank you all. We have used the space non stop for the past week and are really enjoying it. I love the suggestion of adding the orangy red color all over the place. Maybe orange bins for the open shelves on the island. Or an orange ice bucket. The planters are definatly happening in the spring, I can put some mums there this fall. Happyladi, unfortunately b/c of where the grilling area is we can't flip the sectional. We usually use the sectional to lounge or fall asleep while reading a good book so we are facing the yard most of the time. Any opinions on the outdoor rug? Where should I put it?...See MoreNew furniture arrived - Please help finish the room
Comments (17)I like desert solatares rug the most. I think that will make the room look really rich. Do you have a relationship with any business near you who will let you take a rug home without committing? I am not sure if anyone mentioned it but what you have to the right of the entertainment center isn't really adding to the room and is distracting, IMO. I think you might consider pulling them off the wall and do something more to the scale of the room with a little more pizazz. (not necessarily in the same spot). I like your long drapes along your window wall. I want one of the lamps sameboat linked!! I don't know which one, but I will have one of those lamps!! Also, with high ceilings that kind of lamp is suppose to make the room feel a little more cozy. For what it is worth, I like the X tables. Maybe you could find a table in that style with a fabric or color instead. You seemed to like a few rugs with pops of orange. I think that would be a really good accent color if you decide to add a little color. Neutrals are great too--so either way you have a beautiful room....See Morelynartist
