Patio update (with pics!) and need advice on finishing touches

I had posted in the spring about my patio and got great advice here. The past few weeks I've been able to get alot done and I thought I'd post an update.

We got a firetable and I can't wait until spring.

New porch swing:

I painted my old kitchen island and added new hardware.

Rearranged the furniture:

There area few things left that probably won't get done until next summer. First we need a new dining table. That one is falling apart. I was thinking of a round teak table that's the same size as the current one but with extension leaves. For chairs-the Lyle chair from crate and barrel. I need to add a few large planters. I always imagined an area rug, but now I'm not sure where to put it? Under the swing would be the most visible but will that look odd-just floating like that? Another spot would be under the sectional but you would hardly see it. Also there's this large blank space in the uncovered patio under our kitchen window that I'm not sure what to do with. You can kind of see it in this pic-it's to the right of the door.

I could do a window box. DH doesn't think we need any more seating. If we are having a party, we can always pull seating from inside. What about a water feature? Any other ideas? I am going to whitewash the patio brick to match the house.

I think it looks fantastic as it is! Your yard is so beautiful. I live in a dry climate and we don't have that lushness or the big trees- I'm jealous!

What a beautiful space! Some large planters, perhaps a rug ( I thiknk they're a pain outside though- just more to clean) maybe a wall fountain, it looks great! I love the firebox table.

Teppy, In my gut I know that I will not do as good a job as you did if I try to paint on my own. You have excellent taste and are very meticulous. Me....not so much. I do have a laundry room I can experiment with if I need to. I am definitely going to get a quote from a painting company, think I found one, that paints woodwork, cabinet and such. They do a lot of work for builders and had excellent pictures online. I have to get an exterior quote as well. When I get closer to actually beginning I'll post before pictures. I tried previously but couldn't figure it out. Maybe I'll take a look again this weekend. Yes, there is enough room for walking if the seating is added. It would be so nice for entertaining, cooking with the kids, kids doing homework etc. We have an eating nook that accomodates only a 48" round table comfortablly so the extra space would be nice plus it's just more social. I want to compare the painting cost vs. refacing. I'm actually hoping it's not that different because then the KD w/the refacing company could be the GC for the whole job whereas if we go the painting route I'll have find a GC on my own. Will defenitely try to figure out the picture deal so I can post. Thanks for the responses. Z.

petra66- Thanks. I am trying to hold off, but this final stage is frustrating. Also I am unsure as to the paint color I choose. I tend to like things very neutral and monochromatic so this paint color is a little out of the box for me. I am also trying to pick pendant lights--mainly do should I do 1 or 2 over the peninsula. I want to make sure the space feels warm and cohesive and you are right it it is difficult to do with all that cardboard and contractor crab around! Lavender- The fridge is FP and more of a brushed stainless as is the range hood and Bosch Range. The DW is covered by a matching lidingo panel so as to eliminate the too much stainless look since it is located right next to the fridge. DH also has not seen under the cardboard-well just a peek, but its not the same as seeing a whole room of that beautiful stone. Ughh-- I just want it done! :)

thank you for your re responses. Yes I have a Topper coming. I ordered one. As for being dark in there it really isn't I just happen to take the pictures at night with a tablet that didn't have his could a camera on it LOL. Going to attach a couple more from my phone. as for the hutch I did take the hutch off the corner where the monitor is. It was partly blocking my window. The desk was not purchased recently. It was existing and I felt I didn't need to replace it considering I am just a gamer and a surfer. yes I understand the hutch is not really in anymore but I do need that small amount of space that provides which is why I chose that wall. I do definitely need color in there but I think with the topper coming that will help balance it a little bit more. The LEDs I will be putting a strip just behind my desk so I have a small Illuminating Light Behind The Desk. It does look wonderful if you want to Google LED lighting desk and look at some of the images there. the last picture that I put in was what my office or Den look like before. I used to work from home but no longer. I only game in there and surf the net when I'm bored which is almost most of the time LOL. I don't need alot of light in there because of that. I am interested in a gaming room at this point but not too glitzy

I love the colors of the little lumbar pillow on your lounge chair. It incorporates the blues and the turquoise colors that your space calls for, and echoes the color of your pool water. I’d look right now for outdoor synthetic rugs in a natural color to ground your space (think faux sea grass banded in navy or indigo), and then get more bright blue pillows for your furniture. Navy blue pots planted with seasonal flowers, accessories....you have a lovely space!

You're not going to whitewash the columns, are you?? I love them as they are since they stand out as part of the trim. I'd be afraid they'd just disappear if whitewashed.

I'm with nancybee, your patio and yard are just lovely!! I also agree with annz that I like your brick columns as is. They give your home character. If you add some large planters, you could plant some dwarf citrus trees.

What a wonderful space! I love your orange sectional, but it makes such a statement, I think you need to spread that color into the other areas, perhaps matching cushions on the chairs and a couple of throw pillows on the swing. If you check ebay for orange Haeger pottery, you should be able to find some great pottery to match your cushions for acessorizing.

I agree on more spots of orange - even some burnt orange - in pottery, ceramic flower pots. or adding some orangey blooms in the pots, even if dried/silk blooms to be changed out when needed. pillows on swing. cushions on chairs. something hanging on the trellis. a hanging wind chime with orange/copper on it.

Love love love it!!! Your yard and home are lovely!!! the only things I would add are planters and flowers and I like the idea of more orange too! Nice work. I am very drawn to your style it is so unique and calming!

What a wonderful patio and your yard is beautiful! Is there anyway to turn the sectional around so it faces the yard? If I was sitting there I would want to be looking out, not back towards the house.

Thank you all. We have used the space non stop for the past week and are really enjoying it. I love the suggestion of adding the orangy red color all over the place. Maybe orange bins for the open shelves on the island. Or an orange ice bucket. The planters are definatly happening in the spring, I can put some mums there this fall.

Happyladi, unfortunately b/c of where the grilling area is we can't flip the sectional. We usually use the sectional to lounge or fall asleep while reading a good book so we are facing the yard most of the time.

Any opinions on the outdoor rug? Where should I put it?

Wow! Gorgeous! & It looks so comfortable & inviting. No wonder you've been out there non-stop!

Mums will be adorable in the Fall. I saw so much more orange at my local garden center this year. They planted up beautiful orange impatiens in great pots that would look stunning on your patio. A few big, healthy ferns would look great too!

I'm sure you'll have so much fun each season decorating! Enjoy!
