No matter what you choose you will need to remove the tiles so I would use a tile look vinyl not wood look .

As Patricia mentions, you will want to remove the old vinyl tiles if you can (photos of what you have would help). I like the idea of a stone or tile looking vinyl. You can work with the same DEPTH of colour to offer a cohesive look while still maintaining the distinction between the real wood and the faux stone/tile.

I‘m not quite sure what you have in mind here. Is this correct - you have real solid hardwood in the kitchen and you wonder whether to put tile or vinyl in the adjacent laundry room?

If all that is correct, do not install anything that is fake wood (laminate, tile, or vinyl) next to your real solid hardwood. Personally, I’d do ceramic or porcelain tile in a light color.

Yes I have solid hardwood .this is the hardwood colour on the entire floor and the first pix is my
Laundary room . I just want it to all look cohesive so can’t decide on a colour for it . N sorry my bad I thought I could put vinyl right on top of the preexisting tiles :/

You never want to put a fake product (vinyl looking tiles) next to real hardwood. It makes the fake stuff look even more fake. I'd put in a nice porcelain tile and redo the floor if you don't like what's currently there. You could do a nice 12 x 24 for an updated look. I'd keep the color on the lighter side.

I think I'd just paint the grout a lighter (and grayer) shade, using grout paint. That should be enough for an "update" that doesn't break the bank -- hammering up tiles is not cheap.

Yes that’s in fact a great idea .. I am just dreading breaking the tiles n all that work

I also think painting the laundry room another color would help a lot. Yellow just doesn't really work here.

Agree with acm . Unless the tiles are damaged, keep the tiles and scrub then upgrade the grout.

Limiting colors can be a great idea where rooms are open to each other.

I think your tile jumps out at you because of the yellow wall color. Just my opinion, but I would first paint the wall the same color as the rest of the hallway and then decide if you need to remove tile. Paint and an area rug may just do the trick.

I would also suggest avoiding vinyl at all costs - especially given the beautiful hardwood in the remainder of the house. Ceramic will always wear better, is better for resale value and a healthier product for your family to come into contact with. A charcoal grout update and charcoal walls or a fun graphic wallcovering would be nice budget friendly updates to this space and still in keeping with the quality of the other finishes of the house.
