Your LR sounds almost identical to mine! We have beige walls, white beadboard, white built-in's, and a large FP. We also have a dark beam going along the vaulted ceiling. Our fan is dark brown with dark metal, so it's not really noticeable. Our ceilings are the same as the beige on the wall...SW Bagel...and it looks good, IMO. Can you post a picture of the room with the ceiling fans?

I love updating fans. It is easy and inexpensive and you can get a look like no other. How you do it depends on you. Some people like to have it disappear like voila. Some like it to be a decorating accent. This is what I have done in our 40 year old house so far. Before picture in my son's room. You can't see it well. Sorry. Basically it is the standard brass and wood look. We're going for a more modern look in his room. I painted the metal a kind of hammered silver and then the blades a kind of teal. Ignore the popcorn ceiling. That is is still on the To Do list. I loved these pulls I found - they are a light bulb and fan. A little more than I normally do because changed the shades as well. To show the pulls better. edit: ok for whatever odd reason, you will have to click on the picture to see the pulls. This in my daughter's room: We stenciled the flowers with a silver sharpie. Then used a little bling. So if you want the fans to blend in to the ceiling it would be really easy to do with white spray paint. You could do the whole thing or just the blades. If you want to keep it real conservative and keep the wood then I would do the oak. What other colors do you have in the room?

I hate fans with integrated lights. The quality of the light is, IME without exception, awful. I like a simple three bladed fan in either white or a dark color. We have a slightly more decorative (and larger) version in the living room - it has some brass accents to pick up the brass light fixture in the dining room. A a huge dark bronze one is going in on the covered porch. I generally dislike fans with more than three blades, but realize that’s a bit of a fetish.

We have a similar size bedroom as yours, 9' ceilings with a 2' tray. Our fan is 52" (nominal) on a short down road (maybe 18"), has an integrated light, and works great. Do get a remote control fan and mount the control on a lanyard, then hang it over a headpost. Many nights I reach up and adjust the fan speed and direction as I heat up and cool down during the night. We would go with the brushed nickel, but that's our choice not to have white fans.
