Bath vanity lights built into the mirror - Please Help!!!

We are considering: https://www.build.com/miseno-mm5636ledr/s1251218?uid=2991619#overview and https://www.build.com/elegant-lighting-mre13660/s1605106?uid=3830071#q-and-a for our master bath double vanity sink ADM-193

I'm trying to learn everything there is to learn about lights - CRI, Lumens, Wattage etc. etc. and my head is spinning.

I ran a comparison on both and although they both say dimmable - the color temperature for the Miseno says 6000k and for the other its says 3000K, 6400K, 4200K - so not sure if that means Miseno is not really dimmable?

Color temperature (3000K, etc.) and the dimmability (if that's a word) are different things. The former refers to the warmth or coolness of the light; 2700K is warm (reddish light like from an incandescent bulb) while 6000K is very cool (bluish light), suitable for an office. 6000K would be unpleasant in a bathroom. The Elegant Lighting mirrors you linked to have "Adjustable Color Temperature" as shown in the Characteristics and Features list so you can choose among the three different color temperatures listed by moving a switch somewhere on the fixture.

Both mirrors are dimmable as shown on the Characteristics and Features list for each product.

@wdccruise thanks - I read up a little - and understand thatMisemo at 6000K from is more towards the white side. So it's bright but I can dim it down? Elegant Lighting ranges from 3000K to 6400K and I guess within each temperature I can dim these lights too?

Thanks for posting a pic just_julie, beautiful! They said I can't because the medicine cabinets would be in the way. They said side sconces are usually placed at 60 inches above the floor. But I guess I could place the sconces higher... Thanks pricklypearcactus, I'll have to look into that...I'll have to search some pics online... Everyone...having trouble downloading pics. To the left of the makeup vanity is a corner where the medicine cabinet is. I like the 2 lamps on the makeup vanity to provide light at eye level. But how do I get electricity to these lamps? Could I just put an outlet behind each lamp on the wall? But do I need to have a backsplash at the makeup vanity though?? Wasn't sure if it would look weird if there is a backplash at the sink vanity and not at the makeup vanity. I asked the electrician & contractor about mounting sconces in the mirror as pictured. Contractor said he would charge $$$ to cut the mirror so that option is out. Don't know what to do in addition to the 2 lamps. I REALLY don't like vanity lights above the mirrors...but recessed lighting casts shadows. What to do???

Since the vanity is between two walls, I'd purchase a cabinet with appropriate filler to fill the entire space, then have a counter templated. I wouldn't want the vanity floating in the hole between walls. Build it in, like the current one is. You can still have open shelving or legs on the bottom if that's what you like.

if everyone that uses the mirror is approximately the same height, that would make choosing mirrors that showcase your new tile easier. If you have two mirrors the size shown, you could reuse them, hanging them horizontally, with or without frames. If you want the overhead boxes and light gone but do not have enough tile for that part of the wall, you might consider covering the area with paneling into which you can recess new LED light fixtures or against which you can attach your new light fixture -- or both. Color temperature is not a measure of brightness. That's lumens. You can dim both fixtures but that won't change the miserable 6000K (for bathrooms) color temperature.

Lumens/Wattage for Miseno is 2460/40 and for Elegant it is 1056/68. What is good enough for a master bathroom vanity?

Thank you for that link! According to that the requirement of a bathroom: 70–80 lumens per square foot. Our bath total square footage is 90sqft. To get a true picture I need to know all the lights in the bathroom - but I don't!!!

So, If none of the other lights in the bathroom are switched on then the vanity area which is 15sq.ft (5'x3') will give out 164 Lumens with Miseno (2460/15) and 70 Lumens with Elegant (1056/15 )

So I see now how Miseno will be super white and a lot of light for that area (although when I read the comments in the link I posted - some have said it's not enough light!!!!) Hmmm!

Thanks for educating me! Have to decide now.....aaargh!

The unit looks nice, but I’d want to know if the illumination source is replaceable if it fails.

Found out that both these models are not UL listed and Elegant Lighting you cannot change the light if it goes out! So have to search for other lighted mirrors.

No. It's the non-replaceable LEDs (probably tape lights) that allow the mirrors to emit the smooth, even glow over the entire lighted surface. That's not achievable with removable bulbs. There are a gazillion of these mirrors available. Just choose one of the size and shape you like; with the appropriate color temperature and brightness; make sure it's dimmable; and check the installation instructions to make sure whatever in-wall electrical components you have can accommodate the mirror. Don't worry about the LEDs.
