Molly3573-I did not strip the cabinets -clean /fill/prime- The base board trim is just taller base trim from Home Depot- I used the pre-primed faux wood stuff and I used a newall (sp?) post cut down for the corners of the island and corner guards for the corner of the cabinets to dress them up. The bead board was just the pine bead board sheets (4x8) at Home Depot primed and painted with the same. I did not glaze them like the cabinets. All attached with a brad nailer- small trim nails would work and a hammer-but take longer- hope this helps -adding crown molding really gave the best bang for the buck as an upgrade- good luck with your kitchen!

Can the chair pillows work on the couch somehow, perhaps layered with other pillows you have there? If not, consider just making new covers - you don't have to get rid of the insides. If they are a standard size square, like 116x16 or 18x18, you can even use my favorite cheating technique. Regular cloth dinner napkins sewn back to back, will work perfectly to cover them. They are already hemmed, so you sew the three sides together, often right in the existing hem stitching, tuck in the pillow, then sew the fourth edge together. No hemming, turning, seaming, etc. Check out some of the places that sell linens, and you will be amazed at the great patterns you will find. Often sold in sets of four, even on ritzy sites like Horchow. If you can sew a straight line, you can do this. I am not crazy about the solid color pillows. I think the burlap could work, but might be kind of dead against the chair color. I like the toile, but it seems too similar in pattern size to the chairs to really work. Funny, I like the floral pillow in the lamp pix you showed. Is that Pottery Barn? I think I saw it. I am also wondering (and gee, I am hoping I remember this correctly) if you have any fabric left from your window treatments in the kitchen? If I am remembering correctly, you used the jacobean floral with the black background? Might be too much with the black, but if you have a remnant that you could throw on the chair, could be worth a shot to at least take a look. One other thing you could try with the pillows is to find a contrasting fabric that has the red of the pillow, plus some of the warmer gold tones from the chair and walls, etc and tie a 'sash' around each pillow, knotted in the center and short ends just left on either side. A plaid or small print could work well for that. Finally, and this one pains me because it is expensive, is this pillow cover. I am guessing you could use the existing pillows as the inserts, but it is still a lot of $$. Still, I think one of these on each chair would be stunning, and pulls all the colors from the painting and the room, plus the effective size of the design is much larger than the chair print, so no fighting! Thanks, everyone. ppbenn: I don't *love* the floor, but I'm friends with it. When we considered the cost & disruption of replacing it, we decided not to. It also extends out into the entry way & hallway, so it would have added a LOT to the project cost. merrygardener, we did keep one of the lower cab units for storage in the garage (paint, etc.) and our project manager reused some of the cab doors for the basement understairs storage. Do you have a ReStore (Habitat for Humanity) resale outlet in your area? That might be a good place to check. misawachick5: It was a tremendous amount of work, and thankfully we didn't do a bit of it. It was all in the hands of capable professionals. Not an ounce of DIY blood in either me or my husband! More power to all the DIYers out there. :)

This is the kitchen that has been in my brain for at least 10 years, and here you have gone and done it perfectly!!! I'm going to Pinterest the bejebbers out of it as inspiration photos for the coming renovations (as soon as I finish all these pesty bathrooms!). Seriously, I have wanted a 4 oven Aga plus a module for ages. I already have the full 601 fridge & freezer (so a little bigger than your Subzero.) And I plan to put a big barrel hood over it all. And you have a big island with not huge aisles! And you have soapstone! I really think we're channeling the same frequencies. I'm totally in love with your butler's pantry! We didn't inherit one, but I may use the cabinet sliding door idea for the walk-thru pantry I'm planning. It solves my problem of a tight space and not really wanting all open shelves!
