Hi, all. I've only posted on here a few times, but I wanted to share pictures of our finished kitchen. I got a lot of ideas from this forum. So thank you!

We worked with a kitchen designer because (a) I'm very indecisive and overwhelmed by too many options and (b) we didn't have strong ideas about what we wanted, other than opening up the DR/kitchen space, having an island, and using the underutilized space at the far end of the kitchen.

The design our kitchen designer pulled together was inspired by the Mediterranean/Latin American colors & style our TS Post dinnerware (see photos). We love our new kitchen, esp. all the pantry space and the flow b/tw the kitchen and DR. It's so much easier to entertain now. Before guests didn't have anything to lean up on in the kitchen while we were cooking.

Here are the details:

Cabinets: cherry; custom by GlickÃ¢ÂÂs (nearby Amish business)
Cabinet pulls: Ã¢ÂÂCanterburyÃ¢ÂÂ in rust, by Top Knobs
Floor tile: didnÃ¢ÂÂt change
Backsplash: Ã¢ÂÂSan MartinoÃ¢ÂÂ series by American Olean (mixed 2x2 mosaic and 2x2 patterned tiles)
Countertops: Zodiaq quartz in Toasted Almond
Sink: Elkay Gourmet Elumina Stainless Steel 33" x 22" Double Basin Top Mount
Faucet: Moen Aberdeen classic stainless pulldown
Refrigerator: Kenmore Elite
Range: LG
Microwave: Kenmore
Dishwasher: didnÃ¢ÂÂt change (hardly use it!)

Paint: faux paint color wash; base coat for DR = Rembrandt Ruby (Sherwin Williams). I canÃ¢ÂÂt remember the kitchen color off-hand; it was also SW. The accent color was chosen by the painter. He also applied a gloss, which makes the colors come through.

Congratulations - what a transformation! Love all the pantry space and the beautiful new cabinets. I have a narrow galley and am hoping to steal a tiny bit of space by moving laundry machines, and I can only hope the end result is anywhere near as fantastic as yours. Thanks so much for sharing the pictures and explanations!!

Thanks for all the kind words! GW was a great resource all the way through the planning and then the "doing"! Just a couple examples - until I posted a question about which mullions I should choose for glass front cabinets, it never had occurred to me that I had far more choices than plain glass. Now every time I open my cabinets, I smile - I do love the river ice! And because I had always had them, I started my plan with lower cabinets but thanks to GW I changed to all drawers. I love having all my pots, pans, mixing bowls, and small appliances in deep drawers. No more pulling everything out to get the one thing in the back. When we were house hunting, I dreamed of a huge eat-in kitchen with an antique butcher block, but I'm really enjoying cooking in this cozy space with everything so close at hand. mabeldingeldine: We're not Mainers, we just wish we were! We take a trip to the mid-coast area every summer. We got married there and got the Common Ground poster that year - it was also the perfect addition to my kitchen chicken collection! t-bird: Getting the Scherr's doors didn't save any money but I was able to get exactly what I wanted - I just didn't love the finish/materials on any of the white Ikea doors. I posted a breakdown of my costs on the "Under $20k Kitchens thread". I've still got some little paint touch-ups to do, and I need to put some trim where the backsplash ends but it's so nice to have a kitchen that really works. This is the kitchen that has been in my brain for at least 10 years, and here you have gone and done it perfectly!!! I'm going to Pinterest the bejebbers out of it as inspiration photos for the coming renovations (as soon as I finish all these pesty bathrooms!). Seriously, I have wanted a 4 oven Aga plus a module for ages. I already have the full 601 fridge & freezer (so a little bigger than your Subzero.) And I plan to put a big barrel hood over it all. And you have a big island with not huge aisles! And you have soapstone! I really think we're channeling the same frequencies. I'm totally in love with your butler's pantry! We didn't inherit one, but I may use the cabinet sliding door idea for the walk-thru pantry I'm planning. It solves my problem of a tight space and not really wanting all open shelves! I love the color of the cabinets. That dark stain "just goes" in that kitchen.... perfect choice. I think that you should stain the door to match the cabinets. I think it would add a lot to that area. We purchased extra stain when we ordered our cabinets so we could stain a door. We used a wood conditioner first (which helps to even out stain and avoid the "blotch-iness" that your contractor mentioned). It turned out beautiful. And... if the stain doesn't look good.... you can always paint it!! But my vote is to stain the door the wonderful chocolate color of the cabinets.

FAUCET: Kohler K-596-VS Simplice single-hole pull-down kitchen faucet, with handle swung to front rather than on the right side, Vibrant Stainless finish. I did not use the supplied escutcheon, as this was optional. SINK: Blanco Silgranit Vision2U in truffle color. GRANITE: White Rose. BACKSPLASH: Hakatai Ice Iridescent. CABINETS: Maple, plywood construction. Unknown Chinese manufacture. PAINT: SICO Sketch Paper in Pearl finish - 6206-21 BUDGET: 18K, and I installed the backsplash myself to save $800. Edge of backsplash (I'm pointing it out because I did something a little different!). I build the edge up to the ceiling line.

Lovely! Those cabs are beautiful, especially the pantry wall. I love your hardware and the accent tiles - really carry through the Latin American theme. Congratulations, great job!

Such a big improvement! When I saw you kept the old flooring I wondered...But I love the lighter flooring with the cabs and countertop.

I think that backsplash is stunning! A very "homey home!" I would, however, love to get my hands on your old cabinets for my mid-century kitchen...

Thanks, everyone. ppbenn: I don't *love* the floor, but I'm friends with it. When we considered the cost & disruption of replacing it, we decided not to. It also extends out into the entry way & hallway, so it would have added a LOT to the project cost.

merrygardener, we did keep one of the lower cab units for storage in the garage (paint, etc.) and our project manager reused some of the cab doors for the basement understairs storage. Do you have a ReStore (Habitat for Humanity) resale outlet in your area? That might be a good place to check.

misawachick5: It was a tremendous amount of work, and thankfully we didn't do a bit of it. It was all in the hands of capable professionals. Not an ounce of DIY blood in either me or my husband! More power to all the DIYers out there. :)

Hi there!

I was just looking up Glicks custom kitchens and came across your posts. We are in the process of getting our kitchen and master bath remodeled and our neighbors told us about Glicks. We are hoping they will work with us since we are 3 hrs away. Your cabinets are stunning and I'm so glad I was able to see some of their work. Thank you and I hope your enjoying the new kitchen!
