Houzz is so frustrating

I can’t like anyone’s picks and everything’s out of order. It makes me irritable and grumpy or maybe the state of the country makes me angry and I’m taking it out on Houzz...

No offense to AZ Wildcats, but Jock is way beyond starting small at this point! He is well into this process and has probably hit the limit. Jock, I think I was where you are now, back in 2005 when I tried to hire a designer or color consultant to work with. I knew an awful lot about what I liked, but I felt I needed the extra edge from a professional to get me the last few yards to the goal. As for finding someone to work with who has compatible style...you need to find someone who does not insert any of their own style into your process. That should be one of your first questions when interviewing people. Make sure you are not getting a look or a package or (heaven forbid) a formula. You need someone to help you find your home's own best design potential....a facilitator. I'm not sure where you live, but I would start with the IACC-NA.

I don’t really get rust on my roses, but I would strip off the heavily infected leaves. You could try washing the leaves with soap solution, but I don’t know if that will save them. The rose will grow new leaves eventually, so I think it’s better to get rid of as much fungus as you can. Then I would spray what’s left with fungicide, both tops and undersides of leaves, and all over the stems. I try to stick to organic stuff first - like Organocide. It’s an oil spray that it more preventative against fungus, but helps to control it if already there. It also kills insects by smothering, but is supposed the be bee safe once the spray dries. If the fungus is really bad, I use Daconil fungicide. Not bee safe, so I try to avoid getting it on blooms. It does leave white residue on the leaves, so it’s not pretty once done, but if you need to save the plant, use it. Next time, as soon as that particular rose leafs out, try spraying it with a preventative to help ward off the fungus before it shows up. Also, some roses are water-hogs and need more frequent waterings in order to be healthy. I don’t know if Easy Does It is one of them, but it could be worth a try. You can also try watering the plant with dissolved aspirin. It’s supposed to kick start/boost the plant’s self defence system.

Yup, same problem. Very frustrating. I can't even type comments in on my Android phone - I get in a few characters and then they disappear. I am left uploading pictures from my Android phone. Then I immediately go to my MacBook and edit my post - then I can type in a comment and label my pics. Two step process. Ugh!

It worked but they will probably find a way to block it if they read this. Thank you. I am an Interior Designer you should hear the complaints from the design community from those who signed up to be part of this app. One I know became so desperate he changed the name of his company. It seems withdrawing from houzz is almost impossible without causing great damage to their businesses. The app served a great purpose when it began and my hope is that it will be bought out or inherited by more reputable people. The way they do business is POOR business in the long run. I would never utilized any of their services and those in the know would not do so either. This has got to hurt them so they seem to be branching out into other areas to generate revenue. So sad when all they need to do is be honorable business owners. I am sure if we felt less frustration some who read or post on Gardenweb would travel to their design sites for advice or products. Now it only the unsophisticated or the newbies that they hook in. Hummm wonder if I will be banned for this ???? Wish that they would take advice instead.

I agree. I finally figured out that I can sort by newest or oldest. I prefer oldest, or I don't have context. And I can't like some entries, but I can like others. No rhyme or reason.

And, I agree. The state of the country is so frustrating right now. It's smart of you to realize that frustration with that could creep in to other areas. I'll have to remind myself of that next time I'm annoyed with my husband! ;-)

My fave is your La France! That rose just slays me. If I ever find it...I'm going to get it. Your Grace and First Crush don't just speak to me...they sing!! Lovely!

I’ll chime in about houzz——could they just leave things be??? I don’t want to read comments out of order===>>>>they don’t make sense, duh! I am happy they seem to have removed that stupid “best answer” feature. But like others I am having trouble with liking and thanking from day to day.

That said, oursteelers you have such a lovely collection of roses. I had no idea! I must have missed posts on them last year. All are stunning, but I do like Grace and Midnight Blue the most. As rosecanadian said, “they sing to me!”
