Garden Web and Houzz
Comments (80)I think Houzz is located just 20 minutes up the Peninsula from me in Palo Alto. If they have their customer service locally, that would be the Pacific Time zone. As for the name thing, almost EVERYONE got that message about their name already being taken. Somehow I think there is some kind of doubling effect that goes on when you register with GW. I was absolutely not going to give up my online name so I wrote to customer service and insisted that I am the real, original, one-and-only Rosefolly, and they gave me back my name. I think the same kind of thing is going on with many GW users. I believe that if it is important to you (it was to me) and if you persist, you can get your name back. Comments (136)I loved gardenweb, but I will so not be returning to this walmartization of yet another good community interaction. I hope gardenweb's owners made a bundle because they maintained an excellent source of intercommunication between garden enthusiasts for a long time; but the bigger fish will always eat the smaller I suppose. The question is, who or what will be the biggest fish and simply devour us all? BTW, houzz is extremely user unfriendly, no doubt slapped together by some billionaire with a "bright idea," customers and clients be damned. What's new?...See MoreGardenWeb Houzz coupling
Comments (20)I was up too late....:-( of course you confirmed, Paula. Peren.all, are you saying you had to go to Last Name to add zone? I entered it on same line under First Name. When I first logged in (confirmed) (seems like ages ago now) my username "josephines67" appeared without the zone etc because that information, Houzz staff explained later as members were having problems navigating, did not transfer over...so I tried the First Name box and typed in exactly what my name was before without having to change it. Then I browsed around a bit within my profile, etc. to see what touching a field produced. I guess I was lucky as it was an easy transition. We could not change our username at GW (I tried months ago) so I didn't think we could here either...I admit I didn't even try. You'll get help locating your other info soon...hang in there!...See MoreHelp getting on GardenWeb Home Decorating forum (not conversations)
Comments (34)This just happened to me, too. On Chrome, for some reason, I had to sign in (usually I am always signed in) and when I did, my bookmarks for GW didn't work. So when signed in, clicked on Your Houzz and under my name/account I went to activity. It showed where I'd commented on GW threads, so I clicked on a thread from there. Then, when I was in GW (but in a specific thread, not just the forum page), I went to the browser bar, deleted the actual name of the thread, but kept the www.gardenweb.com. (Like I deleted everything after .com here: https://www.gardenweb.com/discussions/5058837/help-getting-on-gardenweb-home-decorating-forum-not-conversations#21448682.) That took me to the GW home page and I bookmarked that. Once I was back on GW, my old bookmarks began working properly again....See Morebeesneeds
