Opinions please. I think I have finally found the right one.
Comments (56)Ok now I think I get it too- you are just showing as a point of reference how the rooms play off of each other, and are thinking that in addition to doing the kitchen, you would also do the fireplace wall and the wall perpendicular to it(facing the kitchen).... I think that sounds good, but being the cautious type, I think maybe have that in mind but first just do the kitchen - I do think that will look great. And, chances are doing it in the family room will be nice as well, but you might just decide that it could be too much... so I would wait and do one step at a time. Of course , that is my bias because I frequently don't see the obvious and need time to "digest". To repeat though, I do think the larger tiles in the latest rendition will be wonderful in your kitchen. (I believe we have a winner!) :)...See MoreI think I've found THE dining room/kitchen table
Comments (17)This is going to be a weird question, but is your room where the table is going more square or more rectangular. I ask because as someone who purchased and resold several tables before settling on the one I currently have (thank you Craigslist!), I found that a round table in a more rectangular area just doesn't seem to work well - the proportions are off. Now if you have a squarish open area for the table, you'll be good (and even if the room is rectangular, if a buffet or hutch or something is filling up one of the ends so that the area where the table goes is squarish, I think you'll be good. I don't remember if there was pic of the area in your last thread. But anyhow, it's just something to consider. Out of all the ones you posted, I like the first one the best....See MoreHave you ever been obsessed by a famous historical figure?
Comments (43)I've spent a lot of time with Louisa May Alcott. Her backstory is so fascinating - as are many people of her era - & the era itself. Another that really captured me was Henriette Deluzy-Desportes. After seeing the Bette Davis/Charles Boyer movie, "All This And Heaven Too", I had to get the book to read (which chronicled so much more of her life) & then became interested in its author, Rachel Field, who also had a very interesting backstory, being related to Henriette through the man she ultimately married. Her introduction to that book describes how she grew up picnicking amongst the tombstones of her new England ancestors & how it inspired her to research & write about this mysterious woman. Comments (75)I love a good revived thread. :-) My good deals are all from eBay this time. My desktop computer is not quite four years old, but since it gets a lot of use and we believe in "lifecycling" electronics I've been casually looking for a good deal on a somewhat high-end refurbished PC to replace it. Before I found anything, my computer quit. Just refused to turn on. I researched possible causes, and called in my expert: my son. The power supply was a common source of the problem, so I bought one on eBay for $20. Nope, that didn't do it, but we kept the replacement in the computer and held onto the old one as a spare. Next we replaced the motherboard ($70 on eBay). Yes! The computer works fine at this point, but we figured since the hard drive has been spinning all these years, why not replace it--or add another, which is what we did--rather than wait for it to fail? So I bought a 1TB SSD drive on Amazon ($100), and now have a "new computer" for under $200. Also, I've been wanting an L.L. Bean tan canvas "barn jacket" for a long time but was unwilling to pay over $100 for it. Even eBay prices on them aren't usually tempting, but this time I found one for under $20 including shipping. I love it! It really is "like new," and I look forward to wearing it when spring starts to make an appearance. All I need now are olive green "wellies" for our muddy season....See MoreUser
