An Old Seed Company Is Back
Comments (29)jtcm05 we are not sentimental because it was an old site - but one that was a family business that provided an excellent service to tomato growers for years and ended up for whatever reason ( certainly not incorrect seeds or spelling or pictures attached to wrong tomatoes) but instead more like what is effecting many families today - the economy - now if my wife had proof read the site the spelling would have been right on - but she would have mixed up the pictures probably - she has taught school for many years resource and can teach gifted - my daughter teaches and is gifted but can't spell her way out of a paper bag - uses spell check - sometimes I typo but don't check - not important to me - what we did miss was a very good company that provided seeds resposibly and with great service - someone you can count on - unlike many mentioned as bad today - I think that maybe Adam was just trying to get up and running probably too soon but if he is anything like his Grandfather and dad will be building a company again that we have missed for 15 or more years - let's see how he does and then make judgement from some of the response looks like he is off to a good start at getting orders out promptly - yes we will have to see the results of the grow out - but I can wait I think there was just a lot of us that mis-interpreted trudi d's initial statement and we were defending Adam - of course as trudi d later said she didn't have all the facts - she is forgiven - just read what you say before you send - my wife used to read critcal letters before I would send - seems I had a way of upsetting the apple cart I think we need to think more about next season and move on...See MoreWall oven recommendations for 2 K budget.
Comments (14)Hi try_hard- i love the look of the Electrolux and love the slide racks. It is smaller than average which didn't bother me too much but was a consideration since it would be my only oven. Here are some additional 'issues'; hopefully they are trivial to you. It doesn't have a 'keep warm' or a low temp; i think the low is 175 or 200 deg. The double oven has this feature but the single one doesn't. The display is not as informative as others. For example, the display doesn't show temp while preheating or the target temp, it just shows "preheating". When the timer is on, the clock (current time) is no longer shown. There is no default temp selected when you choose a cooking mode. These are little things of course but i think this sort of feedback is helpful when multitasking in the kitchen. Although i love the look of the touch pad, i saw it at "The Great Indoors" and the display was broken and "always lit"; it never went into that 'dim mode' which made me think it is a potential problem. Also, the touch pad is not as responsive as others. Hopefully, you will hear from Electrolux users who will tell you that all of what i said doesn't make a difference in practice! i know how hard it is to come to a decision on appliances so i really don't want to dissuade you from something that you are 90% sure of!!! Anyway, let me know your thoughts, and other Electrolux users, please let me know your thoughts - hopefully these things are not bothersome in the kitchen and are only noticeable when comparing appliances on the showroom floor!!...See MoreAcquired Tastes
Comments (36)As a child I hated vegetables with the exceptions of potatoes, corn, raw green peppers and raw carrots. Once I left home, I started eating vegetables, don't know why but possibly to be polite, having been brought up to eat whatever I was given. Now I love cooked vegetables, though I'm still not nuts about salad vegies, and can only eat raw tomatoes in the form of bruschetta, or else buried in a sandwich with lots of other stuff. We titled a family email home from a recent trip to Czech Republic "The Unbearable Absence of Vegetables" due to almost never finding any on a plate! (It's weird- you see piles of yummy looking veggies at stands in the markets but I have no idea why, as no one seems to consume them...) My mother would have fainted at the idea of me MISSING vegetables :-D My aversion to olives started to change as I ate them on pizzas at friends' houses- now I love them, even on their own. A couple of other food aversions I had I lost due to working in kitchens where they were used a lot. Anchovies was one- I worked in an Italian restaurant which also did pizzas, the boss would make pizza at the end of the night with the leftover ingredients and give me a couple to take home, often with anchovies. I grew to like them :-) And another restaurant where I worked the owner (and my co-cook) loved Gorgonzola, and assumed I did too as she handed me a canape to try. Surprise! I loved it and lots of other blue cheese too (much to my husband's disgust). My in-laws had already introduced me to Camembert when I was dating :-) I still don't like oysters, try one every few years but it hasn't happened yet :-)...See MoreIf you could grow only 10 ?
