Finding decent roses at the big box home improvement stores is like a sale for me, like Kordes Savannah for $17.

edmundsrose has some kinda sale but not good enough. besides, the bareroot roses I bought from them last year (June sale) were all horrible. one was dead on arrival.

The ones I bought from wayside were very good ! They all came up except 1 and carding mill had RMV🤷🏻‍♀️

pretty much all the ones I want to buy are out of stock, like Bolero. I am just hoping that they will come back in stock in the fall.

@Oliver (SF 9A), sorry you had a bad experience with Edmund's. Do you think the roses that go on sale are not well-cared for at this point, and that's why they were bad? Or do you have a poor opinion of Edmund's in general? I'm new to rose-growing so I appreciate any further thoughts you have. I was thinking of getting Oh Happy Day from them... $18 sounds really nice.

I bought 4 Princess Charlene de Monaco and 3 Distant Drums from Edmund's this spring, bare-root and own-root. All of them (especially the PCdM) have grown extremely well. PCdM has recently started to develop buds and each plant has around 10 buds, a few have developed sprays with 3-4 buds even (those two bushes developing sprays have like 13-15 buds). And some DD buds just opened up today! I just snapped these photos with my tablet at dusk so not the best quality, but wanted to share. The first two are PCdM and the last two are DD.

hi Main St Garden PA nice planters! And your roses look very healthy. I ordered 6 roses from their June sale last year. All looked horrible. my friends had The same experience. They replaced my dead on arrival rose (golden celebration) this spring. But even for the spring batch, their bareroot roses are noticeably smaller than the ones I got from Regan. They eventually grow ok but slower than my roses from Regan or other local nurseries. I remember reading here people complaining about Edmundsroses too. But many also had good experience with them. So maybe I was just unlucky. Hehe

@Oliver (SF 9A) Thanks for adding on to that! And thanks yes I'm super happy with how healthy they seem. I did not skimp on the soil for the raised beds so I think that is the main thing I have going. I accidentally burned everything once with neem already because the aphids have been going bananas. Luckily not bad enough that leaves dropped but I still felt stupid.

Welp, I think you've convinced me to avoid those sale roses then. I'm not desperate for that rose so it's not worth it.

The only rose sale I am aware of is Jackson & Perkins "end of season" sale for 30% off. Not many roses left this year! I had a very late start to gardening as almost all online seed providers I buy from were backed up and Lowe's and Home depot were entirely sold out of veggies!! I guess more people are looking to gardening.

Roses unlimited usually has theirs in June ! Should be soon :)

@R, thanks! The seller for Bolero on Esty I just found ships in 2.5 inch by 6 inch pot so I was worried it is too small. I placed an order on Northland Rosarium just now and it says it’s the last one in stock! I think it is also a band but the pot is 4x4x6 so just a little bigger.

Honestly I don’t know how much the pot sizes matter. Heirloom roses come in 1 gallon pot, while a few other nurseries ship in 2 quart pots. Antique rose ships in 2 gallon pot. I’ve only bought potted roses from Heirloom so don’t really know how different they are.

. It was out of stock for me at northland rosarium :(. band sizes pick up very quickly in my weather. I pot them first. I hope it grows

@Rose Sniffer When I finally get to see those tiny buds open up, I will for sure share some more. I don't have enough experience to judge when that will happen, by the size of the buds. All I can say is they're like the size of a pencil eraser right now, ha. Guessing maybe at the end of June.

@sbrklyn_7bny Which Etsy seller did you buy from? I bought three roses from Etsy too back in January I think, and got them a little late because of Covid, in April. I bought from FreshGardenLiving and the roses were very healthy and are growing well. They were of course small but exactly as advertised. I was hesitant to make that purchase but so far I'm pleased. Would love to know of other sellers on Etsy if you had a good experience.

@Main St Garden I saw it at FreshgardenLiving on Etsy but didn’t buy from them due to concerns about the size. I placed my order with Northland Rosarium instead. Glad to hear you had positive experience with the Esty seller. I may order one just to try it out.

sibilation, why do you think there site hasn't been update? Are you looking at their facebook page not their website... their website says it was updated April 28th 2020. I know they have added and subtracted HT's, Floribundas, and eco friendly.... I think the climbers and DA don't change too much. Maybe it seems like they don't change it a lot because they carry the same ones.... but I think that is because these are the tired and true roses for the SE.... but if you look at K&M they don't appear to change much on their site too..... Just asking. Please give feed back because I will let the owner know.... I am SURE she would like her site to seem updated.

@sharon2079 Their DA section has been a list of own-root for as long as I can remember. The site says " We have the largest selection of fortuniana grafted David Austin Roses currently available," but they are not listed, and when I asked for a list I got: "What are you looking for?" ... A list? I don't know, maybe Cool Roses just isn't for me. I'm sure they're nice people, but I think I may just stick with K and M.

Edit: K and M doesn't update their site much, but they do provide a list of available roses every year.
