Paint Design Dilemma Exterior

Suggestions for stucco & wood trim exterior paint color

We need to have our stone and stucco house exterior painted badly. I am wondering if we should: 1) have the stucco smoothed as well as painted, and 2) should we stay with the same "blah" color? Front door desperately needs refinishing also. Suggestions there welcome as well.

Drive around different neighborhoods and look for house colors that appeal to you.

I found brick & batten! What a lifesaver for ones like me who can’t just drive around and get ideas (that are worth anything!)

love that house! I've seen white stucco houses, but I think they look best if the red tile roofs are *really red*, not clay-ish or terra cotta-ish. On my monitor, it looks like your roof is brownish or antique-red or terra cotta. Since the gray is really "new" looking, very clean looking, it seems like the blue trim would need to play up the antique or vintage look of the roof; if you have new/clean paint & new/clean trim, it might make the roof look old/dingy. The darkest blue, on the right side vertical part of the window trim, seems like the best to me. It's a great house & it has character; have fun!

Can't see the detail too well. So you can't repaint the stucco but you CAN repaint everything that's green and the front door, and replace/paint small areas of tile, right?

I really appreciate these suggestions and visuals - thank you! I will take pictures from some additional angles; the house is very boxy, and is currently one color of stucco all around, with one trim color (dark brown), with virtually no relief or break-up of that vast expanse of off-white stucco. I have been thinking about making the front porch body a shade or two lighter (or darker) than the body of the house to add a dimension/ depth; adding shutters to the 2nd floor windows is something I hadn't considered but helps add interest - thanks houssaon for that idea! Oh - there are no flower boxes on the 2nd floor - just on the outside of the enclosed front porch (which is basically the whole 1st floor you can see from this picture). OK, more to come soon - thank you for these suggestions!

@ptreckel Thanks for the idea! I LOVE sage green. I was even thinking cream base with sage green trim. Do you think something like this would work? Only problem is, my windows are white vinyl, so the windows would be white and trim would be sage.

Keep the faux timber details on your home they add interest and texture. Here are some homes with stone that is similar to yours. I think your home could benefit from contrasting paint trim around the windows & perhaps actual wood for the 'timbers' on your stucco. Any paint colors should be pulled from the colors in your stone except for the bronze for the windows.

I think your home could look much better with upgraded garage doors like you see below.

I would paint the trim a darker color and possibly the stucco. Can't tell what the roof color is but maybe match the trim to the roof color if is matches a color in the stone. I would then match the door to the trim or stucco color to blend.
