Shower Rod for small shower? Options?

I'm getting a very small (30" opening) shower tiled this week, in a tiny guest bathroom, and while I may add a door, right now I just want a nice metal rod that I can temporarily place against the tile. So no permanent screw in. The problem is I can't seem to find a quality tension metal rod small enough for a 30" space. And I'd love a curved rod. Ideas?

You probably can't find a 30" rod because it is such a small shower. I would suggest buying a larger rod, disassembling it and modify its length with a hacksaw to make it work in your application.

Regarding a curved rod, that will have to be a screwed-in install to resist the torque developed by the hanging curtain (the weight of the curtain is offset from the rod mounting and will constantly put a twist on the curtain rod mounts). Having looked at curved rods in hotels (we have need for one down the road), this is the brand I have seen:

Although their smallest rod (60") is much larger than you need, the installation instructions say that for smaller openings equal amounts may be removed from each end of the rod with a tubing cutter.

Because of the narrow 30" opening, the additional space gained from a curved rod will be minimal. The rod cannot really bulge outward or the shower curtain won't be contained in the shower area; it will bellow out. I would go for a straight tension rod.

I hadn't thought about a wall mounted sink at all! I'd like something more traditional looking than the Jazz but it's definitely an option. With some quick googling, I found the Duravit 1930. It's only 14.5" deep! Thanks again. :)

Bought ours at Bed Bath Beyond with a coupon. It's a brushed nickel double rod. We hung the curtain and liner on the outer rod using double-sided hooks and we hang towels and wash cloths on the inner rod-usually on the side opposite the shower head (inside liner isn't as wet). We didn't install it as far out as we could have because it would have taken a chunk out of the already skinny room. It still makes the shower feel roomy, though, and the ends being further inside the shower has helped with water leakage outside (kids).

Hi Lisa, I saw a very cool idea in a magazine recently (wish I could remember which one!). The homeowners had installed some kind of a flat bar on the ceiling which the shower curtain was attached into via clips or something that ran inside the center groove of this flat bar. (A bit similar to the grooves in ceilings that they have for privacy curtains in dr.'s offices and hospital settings). Of course this is very high, so the homeowner had purchased two shower curtains that coordinated and simply stitched a header (or you could do a footer depending on preference) of the other color. This header was a good 12" deep, and the result was really beautiful. And all I could think of was what a smooth operation it would be! Of course I have no idea where you would get such a thing, but maybe someone else does... Lynn

It looks really nice, did you add a steam generator ? i think it would be a nice idea ! i installed one when i renovated my new house last month, when i moved my new shower and bathroom was looking really old and ancient, the siding was made of wood and it was really rusty and broken, i also did some repairing inside like panting, flooring, etc. changing the old doors was also in my plan, and actually the best thing on it now is the shower after i bought a generator for steam shower which makes really good steam. I think it would be really nice in your bathtub.

Get the door now IMO a shower curtain works in a shwoer with no tub there is nothing to keep the curtain from billowing out and putting water all over the floor and as a guest I would really not be happy if I had to mop up water every time I had a shower.

Tube cutter $6 at Harbor Freight, $10 at Lowe's. Or ask for "a favor" at any place that sells / installs cyclone (woven metal fabric) fencing.

Thinking outside the box, in case you are unable to find a shower curtain rod.
