Yes has been done. And is a way to show off someone's design skills. However, one thing to consider is that if the porcelain tile is not color body thru porcelain you most likely will see an unattractive unfinished edge. That is one of the purposes of why Schluter products exist, to hide ugly edges of porcelain. And it does not cover that imperfection unfortunately in that installation format. Plus, the tile can chip when being cut. Also small when on a floor but when at eye level and going for a clean look definitely noticeable. Best bet if you really want this look is using stone (limestone or marble). But in my opinion, less is more. But still not ideal for cleaning over time in a kitchen. And if you want your investment to not date itself in 5 years then go for classic and clean. No Schluter. Scandinavian style, I would continue the quartz up the backsplash or pick a nice simple subway tile.

Do you think my kitchen would look OK with the minimalistic pattern of Caesarstone Polished Pebble as the countertop and backsplash then? Also, you see how the countertop extends past the upper cabinetry? What are your thoughts on the full backsplash continuing to the edge of the countertop like the photo example below? I personally am not a fan of the counter cantilevering with out either bringing the cabinet paneling out or a decorative leg. But this is a peninsula, so not really many options. But I think a more sophisticated and clean look would be to waterfall the counter like this. As long as the kitchen counter and the bar counter are the same height.

To answer your question on the look with the quartz up the backsplash. It all depends on the cabinets and hardware. Subway tile is always stunning. I know it sounds boring but can never go wrong over the years with subway.

@Blackdoor Design by Tamra Coviello I had to look up cantilevering. :) There will be cabinetry on the other side of the pony wall that separates the kitchen and dinette cabinets, so no room for bar seating or cantilevering. Also I know the diagram gives the illusion otherwise, but there's actually a support beam at the end of the counter so it's not a peninsula either (see below). Thanks for your advice on the backsplash!

I personally would not carry the backsplash past the pony wall( half wall). The natural transition is the end of the wall cabinet in my opinion.
