Never use sandpaper, that is for removing finishes, will be a huge mistake. Get some steel wool, grade # 0000 only (don't use # 000 or lower). Take your wool and lightly go with the grain pattern with moderate pressure. Do not swirl the wool, its important to use even pressure and strokes. This will knock down light scratches and lightly dull the finish. Restore the brilliance with a good furniture polish that is preferably not silicone-based. Duane Collie
