Help! The trunks have become one with the chain link
Comments (29)you are confusing the 2 parts of my post. i gave an example of taking an entire lot by taxes. but you can gain adverse possession of PART of a lot by openly and hostily controlling it for 10 years. you treat it as your own and it becomes yours, with certain conditions. my grandparents lost a 5' wide strip of their lot due to AP. when the house was built they put their fence up and were forced to stop 5' back due to a utility easement. the neighbors behind them did the same thing. a few years later the utility company disolved the easement and gave full possession back to the owners. my gradnparents neighbor decided to just extend his fence to theirs. they did nothign about it as they saw no big deal. this was in 1969, fast forward to 1984 when they were refiing their house and found out that at some point 2-3 neighbors before had filed for adverse possession and won teh strip. they were never even informed, but since title had changed hands several times since then they really could not do anythign about it. yes, since that time some changes have been made to the AP laws here, but still 10 years controllign an area of land without permission from the real owners and you can get it. it does not have to be the whole lot, just the portion you control. and i agree, IF you grant your blessings then AP is out teh window. but make sure you do it IN WRITING or it will be hesaid/she said!...See MoreHELP! I have become a Kitchen Nazi!!!
Comments (14)When we moved into this house 2 years ago, we needed some new furniture (rugs, couches, stuff that gets dirty easily). I was such a couch/rug nazi! And those newly refinished wood floors? Argh! It was really upsetting, as I had all old stuff in the previous house, and I never worried about "kid damage." Well, my 2 little boys play hard, and I got over the floor fretting pretty fast (I HAD to). I'm still a bit hyper about the rugs and couches (which are slipcovered, for goodness sakes). After 2 years, the realization finally hit me that the rugs can actually be cleaned if anything happens to them. I hoped I've picked sturdy kitchen materials, so I don't drive my kids crazy. *breathe breathe* They are only little kids for a short time, but I STILL have lots of memories of my own mother screeching at me for being too rough around her antiques, or carrying juice across her beige carpet, scratching the wood floors, etc. I don't want my boys to carry those memories of me forever...It is only stuff. Just stuff. Their little hearts and minds are far more precious. Until they etch the marble... Kidding! :-) Francy...See MoreHave we become slaves to kitchen fashion?
Comments (103)Cool counters, Alisa. With our last remodel in 2011, we did a white shaker kitchen. I loved it at the time. This time around we are taking a design risk. When researching for our current kitchen remodel, we looked at a lot of MCM/modern kitchens and the vast majority of them either have walnut, rift sawn oak or lacquered white slab cabinets. While those are beautiful, we wanted to do something different. We chose fluted cabinets that were inspired by a piece of MCM furniture we saw. The island will have stainless steel cabinets. I've never seen a kitchen with cabinets like this before, and I'm a little nervous about how they are going to turn out. With a white shaker kitchen, I had a vision of exactly what my space would look like -- it looked like many of the other kitchens on here. With this kitchen, we are going into unchartered territory with a unique cabinet style and stainless, which is not all that common in residential applications. It could turn out great, or it could be an epic fail. But I'm pushing myself to take a risk this time around....See MoreHave you become more minimalist over time?
Comments (129)I am getting rid of lots of stuff as I move. I am even sending some potentially valuable things to my brother, since he has offspring and I do not. (My mother potentially risked her life getting presidential signatures at the Kentucky Derby one day in the early 70s. She gave them to me in the 80's. I found them, and shipped them off to my brother.) I'm probably not great at downsizing, but any downsizing and minimalizing I can do... the better. I'm 64, and I have no kids. I'd like my brother to decide which, if either, of his kids would appreciate some of these things. As for other things... the guy who I hired to help me load up a Budget van's worth of stuff to move... he got my parents' dining room furniture set just gratis, because he indicated his mother could use it. Way to far to ship from CT to Florida or Illinois in any other case, anyway. And way too formal for my own new home....See Moresalonva
