How do I finish hardwood to a sunkin family room?
Comments (2)"You do not put an expansion joint in 3/4" flooring, just keep it backed away from walls. " If the wood is nailed down T&G the movement of an individual board depends on its width, and is all the room you need, and even then only on one wall usually. Nailed T&G wood moves at every joint, so there is no large movement of the floor as a single piece. When you get into the equivalent of a 10 foot wide board, movement can easily approach an inch with some woods. With 3 inch wide strips there are ~40 joints across 10 feet. Each strip can move 0.02 inches to give 0.8 inches of total movement (that would occur if the boards were all glued together and moved as a single piece). You cannot stop the movement of wood as the humidity changes, just take into into account. Chapter 3 of the Wood Engineering Handbook covers movement. Here is a link that might be useful: Wood Handbook, Chapter 3...See MoreHow should I brighten up my kitchen?

Comments (13)For your two chairs, I highly recommend Bradington-Young's Marietta swivel glider tub chairs. I did their customer's own material option but they do have lots of fabric and leathers to choose from. I ordered the chairs from a local furniture store that carries that brand. Everyone that sits in the chairs loves them. My husband is tall and above average in size and thinks the chairs are the most comfortable ones in the house. The chairs have a smaller profile look but they are plenty roomy. I was so happy to see that when Bradington-Young made my chairs that they did a perfect job on pattern matching the fabric. The chairs were a bit expensive but well worth it in my opinion Here they are...See MoreHow can I brighten up a kitchen with no windows?
Comments (5)Start by using brighter, warmer light bulbs. When we bought our house (Victorian, which tends to be kinda dark anytime that is not high noon), the previous owner left a bunch of dim, bluish cold-temp LED bulbs in the fixtures and the interior was dreary and dingy, especially after dark. We replaced with warm 75W equivalent bulbs and it was SO much better. So yeah, try some new brighter bulbs and pay attention to color temp - don't get the cool ones. Also, gray seems like a questionable paint choice for a windowless room... maybe post pics?...See More
