How did you pick your kid's names?
Comments (33)Well we thought we were being unique with the first one. But it seems that it's a name that's been used in the Celtic cultures for some time. I thought I was sticking a K in front of Ian..His dad picked his middle name. They have to be D's..his is and his first three children are as well. The second one was going to be an A name..but my husband's youngest brother was left sterile from Cancer treatments at the age of 18, so we took part of his name and used it. Again middle name was chosen by Daddy. The last one we decided since the other two had the same initials, might as well keep with the program..We didn't like or couldn't agree on K names, so we started looking at C names we could swap out. We decided on Cameron..but the spelling we chose as Kamren (boy) or Kamryn (girl) and then we gave our oldest a short list of D middle names and he picked Dylan/Dillon..we chose to go with Dillon. However had he been a girl the name still would have been the same, just different spelling. Kamryn Dylan. My husband thought the name was picked out for his oldest son prior to him leaving for USMC bootcamp..however one day he got called into the Gunny's office and was told congratulations you have a son, his "specs" are xyz and it appears he's a Jr. Hubby never wanted a junior. Oh well....See MoreDid your kids date in high school? If so, how much?
Comments (15)best, I'm getting that book for my son! I just had all my conferences with his teachers (he is a Jr in HS) and every single one of them commented on how quiet he is, including one teacher who actually called him "aloof." They all acted as though he's the first quiet kid who has made his way through that school. My older DS never really dated in HS. He fell head over heels in love right after graduation, though, and had a messy and emotional breakup about 6 months later. Hasn't dated anyone since then (almost two years ago). Younger DS (the quiet one) now has his first GF, as of about two months. They have been friends for two years and they are part of the same group of friends so it's hard to determine what counts as a date and what is just hanging out with friends, because there's a lot of overlap there. Sometimes they go out with the group and then the group will disperse and the two of them will go elsewhere. Sometimes they're in the group and they all stay together for the evening. And probably least frequently, they will go out on a real date. Problem with this whole scenario is that it feels (to me) that he is spending too much time with the GF, but since part of that time they are also with the guy friends who I want him to also spend time with... it's not like I can say, okay, hang out with your friends but don't invite her this time! Anyway, it does seem like a nice relationship so far. Hard to say if it will get serious but I do wonder how the breakup will be if/when it happens, because if it's not cordial, it's going to be awkward for their group of friends....See MoreDo/did you teach your kids to cook their favourite recipes?
Comments (28)I was mostly taught to cook by watching, but Mom did pass a couple recipes on to me. Not that my family cares all that much... she never was the best cook. Too Irish I suppose. My Gran, on the other hand, took her recipes with her to her grave. Dad is still bummed nobody can make her rolls or cinnamon buns. Regarding working in a restaurant... I suppose I learned more there than I did at home. Especially about prep and food storage. It taught me new methods that my Mom would never attempt. It also taught me to rely less on salt and to use actual seasonings instead such as herbs. ... And I think a stint as a prep kid should be mandatory for high school graduation. Kids here have to have volunteer hours to graduate and while that's great there's no comparison between shelving books at the library and learning how to feed yourself....See MoreDid your kids (or you???) grow up watching this house?
Comments (10)Growing up we had that exact same intercom system in our house. I would turn it off in my room so my mother could not eavesdrop. It took so long to warm up you could just yell up the stairs ten times. i had no idea the Bradys had such a big yard. ;) No wonder Marcia got bonked in the nose with a football. i still refer to stairs that have no risers as. Brady Bunch stairs. thanks for sharing. That was fun...See More- 4 years ago
