Isn't everyday Children's day in this country?

I never heard of Children's Day, but I'll ditto what Monica said.

I know there is a Children's Day, but I didn't know it was yesterday. The Indianapolis Children's Museum has free admission on La Dia de los Ninos. I wonder if it's the same day?

We had Tyler's birthday party, so it was definitely a kids day for us. Five three year olds, a one year old, and a 2 month old and their adults - all family or very close friends. It was a great way to celebrate.

Well, yest was my BD, so that negated children's day. Actually, I never heard of children's day and around here, every day is children's day.

Maybe it's my age? But I'm so surprised no one else seems to know of or celebrate Children's Day.

When I was growing up, it was ALWAYS celebrated in church (all the local churches--not just ours), the week before Father's Day. And since it seemed such a nice tradition, DH and I have always kept it up. It's never been "Christmas in June" in our house--just a day when we do something a little special with DD. When she was little, we'd go to the zoo, or bowling or something. Now that she's older, and out of the house, it's a nice reason to get together an extra time. She'd been wanting to try the restaurant I mentioned above, so we made that our choice this year.

Nothing wrong with remembering our wonderful children on one special day, I think. And it really seemed fair for poor DD when she was growing up--in May and June, the poor thing has to deal with: Mother's Day, Father's Day, Mom's b'day, Dad's b'day and our anniversary.

Didn't know about Children's Day, either. It isn't listed on any of my calendars, so it obviously isn't celebrated nationally.

I've never heard of it either. I'll pretend I didn't hear of it now. :-) With just one child, mine gets pretty spoiled the way it is.. she doesn't need another day of gifts or pampering.

Never heard of children's day. They seem to have a special day for everything and everyone now. I just spent a small fortune on camping equipment/supplies and summer clothes. Does that count?

I've never heard of children's day either. What's next, Daughter's Day and Son's Day? What about Nephew Day and Niece Day? Oops, can't forget the step parents and step brothers and step sisters.

Took dd and her horse to her first horse show/ playday.
DD was nervous, the horse was excited enough to winny in my ear about a two dozen times. ow. Various other learning experiences, a few tears, hers and mine. The horse was excited to see her buddy at home through the trailer windows that she didn't care that she was squishing me like a pancake while trying to get out. And I'm not kidding!
After 11 hours of being in the sun, putting tack on and off, ajusting and coaching,and being strong for my dd, I was pretty wiped out by the time we came home. DH (who had to farm that morning) even brought me a corona beer, something I rarely drink. He must have thought I needed one! So that's what happened on kids day, from my point of veiw.

Never heard of it. Just what we need.....more "holidays" to observe, as in...spend money.

I'll soon be shelling out some serious bucks for both my sons' fall college tuition. Thank goodness my oldest will be a senior this year.

How and why they ever came up with this holiday is beyond me. Oh yea, it's all about trying to make parents feel guilty and separate us from our money. I do enough for my kids....I'm not going to add anything else to it just because Hallmark says I should. Good grief.

Like most here I had never heard of it either...and I'm surrounded by kids everyday of the week, all day, and some week ends, so it's pretty much kids days here everyday too. I don't need to acknowledge another holiday that cost's me bundles of money! LOL...I spend enough through out the year on just because gifts, Christmas, birthdays, Easter, Valentine's Day, etc!

There's a Children's Day?

My son will be glad to hear, and mad that we missed it. Every Mother's Day or Father's Day, he asks when Children's Day is.

I tell him when HE goes to work, makes dinner, folds laundry, etc., THEN we'll celebrate it.

That Mother's Day and Father's Day are there to keep kids from taking their parents, and all they do, for granted.

We sort of started a family tradition a couple of years ago when Sophie was going through a bit of an emotional rough spot (jealous of baby brother) - we picked a day and marked "Sophie's Special Day" on the calendar. It was a day just for her. We did the same thing last summer for each of the kids - Sophie's Special Day and Benjamin's Special Day, about a month apart. It's just the family, but we make that entire day just for them, from beginning to end. They get to wear a special hat on their day, eat their favourite breakfast, go places that they love, etc. It's a lot of fun for all of us and they feel SO important on "their day".

Guess it's a regional thing, and it's certainly not new--I'm almost 60--so this holiday goes back 50+ years--maybe more. Not a 'hallmark' thing. And as I said--we don't make it so much about money as about spending a little extra time on each other.

Shoot--I spent all day yesterday thinking it was Father's Day, so what would I know about Children's Day. Duh!

I never heard of it either and I agree with monica that it seems in the US that everyday is Children's Day. And it certainty is at my house because my only child has Autism. I have to literally do everything for him everyday and have for almost 24 years.

Why does everything have to have a "Day"? Now days I can't remember what day it is every day.I sure don't need another holiday to remember!LOL

Growing up my mother always got us something. We are getting the kids new bikes for children's day but Teagen had all star game yesterday so we were unable to get the bikes.

I knew there was a such thing as Children's Day. I just never thought of it as a gift-giving-celebrating-with-family kind of thing. Not like Mother's Day or Valentines Day. I thought it was about awareness- like Earth Day. I didn't think it was about me and my children, but children's issues. Awareness of the issues around children's health/well-being, like disease, poverty, abuse, homelessness, disasters.

I would have associated Children's Day with something like a fundraiser, safety fair... a drive for awareness. Not dinners and gifts or family outings.

But, I didn't know it was yesterday, or even in June. ;o) So what do I know?

Obviously, I didn't do anything out of the ordinary with my kids yesterday. I didn't even take them to the community pool. I did their laundry, and fed them. I left the house for a while so I could come home and be nicer. ;o)

I went to the link Maddielee posted and saw that it is observed by the Church of the Nazarene.That is really weird because I have been a member of the Church of the Nazarene for more than 30 years and never heard of it! Maybe I wasn't paying attention that day!LOL

I never heard of it, I live in southeastern PA and it was never celebrated in this area. I agree with Monica = every day is children's day! I did however, order my son some rafts for his pool last night and had them sent to him, he will get them later this week.

I was raised Lutheran (at home) and Presbyterian (when we were at the shore)--in So. Jersey--and BOTH celebrated children's day--although sometimes different, but consecutive Sundays.

Until about 4 years ago, when she got too confused to remember, my mom always gave each of us a box of candy for Children's Day.

I tell my daughter that Daughter's Day can be "any" day I want it to be, so every time I send something to her, I write "Happy Daughter's Day!" LOL

I didn't know there was a Children's Day, and I am a preschool teacher who is surrounded by little ones all week!

Hmmm...I actually did have a nice Children's Day with my DD, though. We spent the day in Portland with friends. However, she started not feeling well towards the end and by the time we got home she had a high fever. She slept with me all night.
