Comments (17)Assuming they hired a professional designer to do the model living room, what I see is that under the best of circumstances, that living room is awkwardly set up. In the model room, there is space for three, maybe 4 people to sit. Only one seat directly faces the TV set. Look at the furniture in that room. One small sofa or loveseat. One armchair. One TV stand. One end table. One large coffee table that was chosen to fill up the empty space in the center of the room to make it look more furnished. Imagine that room without the coffee table and it starts to look a lot like the OPs room. There are three lamps, one of which appears to block part of the TV. And then at least 4 plants, to make the room appear more furnished and welcoming. I think they did a wonderful job making that room look open and inviting, and hiding the more obvious flaws in the design of the room. The rooms layout simply doesnt function well. Either you have the sofa on the wall in the model room, and then you have a hard time watching TV, or you put the sofa on the window wall so you can see the TV set, and then you lose the view out the windows and have an awkward layout. OP, its not you. Its the room. Working with the furniture you have, the first thing Id do is take out the two small chairs. They dont work with the rest of the furniture. Then Id try to put the sofa on the wall where it is in the model room, and buy a table top TV swivel stand so that you could easily watch TV from there. Move the blue chair to the same position as the woven chair in the model picture and place an end table between the sofa and the chair. Down the line, look for a coffee table similar to the one in the model pictureglass or Lucite to keep the space looking open, and slightly oversized to fill the space better. And maybe a smaller unit to hold the TV....See MoreI could use some layout help.
Comments (90)Well, I was going to splurge and have someone do the backsplash for me... I got the first quote back. If I supply the tile, they will supply the thinset, grout and sealer. 27 sq feet for the low price of $850.00. That seemed a little high to me... Thinking of beveled edge over sized subway tile for most of it with an accent piece behind the cook top. This is what I am thinking for the accent... Thoughts??...See MoreI'm back with some sad looking mint plants that could use help
Comments (19)cindy_7 I wouldn't count on me being right about any of this! Though in my defence it would appear that basil can taste a bit minty, according to what I read. That said, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if my minty is another person's turkey! Also the tag that came with the pot said mint and spearmint, after tasting one of them I didn't question what the tag said. : / Here's some pics of the dethroned (remove from pot) mint/basil, it doesn't look too healthy and these photos were taken after I removed a good number of dead leaves. The sage and thyme look great though, aside from some minor yellowing. I've had to pot them together, as I don't have enough space otherwise. And the mint/basil I have carefully laid aside, after moistening the roots and having a good look at it. I'll be honest, I doesn't look long with this world! I'll place it in a pot on it's own this evening (UK time) and hope for the best for it. floral_uk You're like a human almanac for the UK plant-life and all it's need-to-knows! How's your kid's tomato plant hanging in? The weather this end has been cloudy and very cool in the morning then very hot and dry for the remainder of the day. That must have an impact of the taste of them, I would think? Hope they're doing well. :) Oh, and yes to the Kale. I'll be growing it to cut and come again purposes only....See MoreI could really use some help with this moss rose.
Comments (6)@Stephanie, 9b inland SoCal I agree with you about the MG Moisture Control Potting Soil. I have used it exclusively for MANY years. I planted MANY hanging baskets and pots to sell at the nursery at the beach and for clients in Pacific Palisades, the San Fernando and Santa Clarita Valleys. It's all I have used for my own potted roses and the only media I have used to raise rose seedlings in for YEARS. It has all been because it doesn't dry out quickly; prevents over watering; doesn't cake on the surface, preventing water from penetrating; and hasn't broken down quickly like most potting soils I have experimented with have. Everything now is potted and MG Moisture Control is still all I use. It gets expensive to buy but it lasts so long and everything grows so well in it, I probably save money in the long run....See Morenutsaboutplants
