We like our LG range with knobs in front. We've had it 5 years so I don't know what it would cost now, but it wasn't over $600 then.

You want a "slide in" range to get the front knobs. Add "Slide in" to your search terms.

Get a new range. You are not only looking at spending $700 in repair parts (plus additional for labor, I presume), you're looking at the cost of the next repair in a year or two when something else fails. Invest that money in something brand new with a warranty. Maybe start by looking at the deals on major appliances at Costco.

1. How wide is the current range?
2. Do you want a gas, electric (radiant), or induction range?
3. What color do you want the new range to be (stainless steel, white, black, etc.)?
4. How much do you have to spend?

It sounds like it is time for a new range. I loved my KitchenAid slide-in range, but it might be a little over budget. In the $1,000 range you might want to look at the Frigidaire below, on sale at HD.

The only reason to spend more than a trivial amount to repair an old appliance is if the appliance is something unique. If it is a strange size and replacing it would require expensive cabinet and counter changes, fix it. If it is a standard size, don't think twice and just buy a new one.

One small negative with front knobs: I have accidentally turned on the gas by brushing up against the front.

Thank you all for your comments. I realize I should have included......slide-in, 30" wide, white preferred, electric, and knobs in front. Regarding the cost, I just want a good product from a good company that will last at least 10 years. You've given me some ideas and I thank you for that!

I would look at the GE ranges. Their knobs are on the same plane as the burners so you can't accidently turn them on.

Many of the ranges that have the knobs on the front façade of the range are prone to accidentally turning on when you lean on them. I have a Samsung with the knobs in the front and when I lean over the range to wipe the backsplash, I hear the distinctive "ding" of the burners being turned on. Something like this should be avoided.

ETA: White is generally considerably more than stainless steel. You might want to start converting your appliances to SS

We recently got a new refrigerator, and the white was more Expensive than ss.

Talk to a used appliance store. It depends on the store and the clientele they cater to, but many times they'll have around 5 year old appliances selling for 1/3 or so less than new.

They may also give you a deal on an exchange with your existing range. They can fix it for far less than $700, then turn around and sell it to someone else. Their secret is used parts.

I’d rather have a new appliance and the warranty that goes with it than save money on a used one. Just my 2 cents....

I have been happy with every Whirlpool appliance I've ever had - fridge, stove, washer & dryer (dryer is over 25 years old)- although it was a gas stove, not electric The company website shows slide-in, knobs in front, electric ranges for about $1000 -$1400. You can probably get a better price at a store. Don't be afraid to make an offer.

Traditional stoves (knobs in the rear) are much less.
