Comments (16)Thanks all for the honest advice. The furniture on the left is small china cabinet with our crystal barware on display. I don't have to keep it here, but I'm not sure there's another great place for it in the house. Behind that there's a doorway to the kitchen + breakfast nook. I'd hate to redo the drapes since we just got them and they were pricey. They are pinch pleated dupoini, so while not heavy, they are not quite as casual as they appear in the photo (although they really need a good press still). We did think about going taller with them, but got talked out of it at the store, since they said that raising the hardware too far above the window would put it in no man's land--just kind of floating disconnected from the window. I hadn't thought about painting the angled portion of the walls all the way to the ceiling. We've kind of been treating it as a giant tray ceiling and considered that angled part the ceiling. Maybe extending the painted part would help bring the ceiling down a bit? I also like the idea of more/larger art on wall for texture. aktillery--I like the light you posted. Do you know who makes it?...See MoreShould I paint the pantry ceiling in high gloss?
Comments (22)You WILL see every nail pop, drywall seam, gouge mark, and roller mark with a gloss paint. There is no way around it, experienced painter or not. It's not a function of the painter, it's a function of the paint, and more importantly the prep work behind the paint. A surface has to be 100% flat, and it helps if it's sprayed. You can do a short nap roller with Floetrol added to the paint, but that doesn't work as well on a ceiling as it does a vertical surface. Gravity just works against you with the paint "settling out". Over time, ceilings usually also develop a very slight droop between the joists where they are fastened. That slight droop isn't that noticeable when the surface is non reflective, but just increase it's reflectivity and you'll spot it immediately. It's exceedingly rare to have a ceiling so flat and smooth that you won't notice all of these issues when painted in even a semi gloss finish. And if your ceiling isn't perfect, getting it that way will cost a lot of extra time or money. It may not even be possible at all in some cases....See MoreHigh gloss white kitchen cabinets.... handles or no handles?
Comments (19)Thanks for this suggestion, Jamie. Checked the site. Shipping is not free to Canada. But perhaps still a good deal, all things considered. I will check them out further. Can't wait to take possession of the condo.... might be a few weeks yet before I can start reno. I will post pics. :-)...See MorePaint for Semi Open Kitchen/Family Room - High Ceilings and Windows
Comments (1)I would go with a white shade with grey undertones like “snow bound” definitely dislike the current yellow So it’s good that you’re going to change it. that look is Super dated (so are the cherry cabinets but if you can’t change them at least white will modernize things a bit)...See MoreA Dee
