Rustic living room: which fabric for sofa (tan or truffle)?

I am looking for advice regarding sofa color choice. I included 2 photos below of our current living room as well as 2 fabric swatches that I like. We plan to move the sectional upstairs, and remove the current recliner & large metal bookcase from the living room. For our new layout, I have picked out an upholstered sofa by King Hickory to be placed along the wall (where the bookcase & recliner are currently), and plan to purchase 2 leather push back recliners to be placed where the long portion of the sectional is currently (when you enter our home from the foyer).

I am completely overwhelmed by looking at fabric swatches. I originally planned to go with a lighter khaki or tan sofa. But we have both brown & black dogs. Although they are not allowed on the furniture, they do rub against it. And I've noticed that if they lay their heads on the sofa to be pet, the dark hair shows on my current sectional.

Question: I included two fabric options that I like. The first option is a truffle color with flecks of tan. Dog hair doesn't show at all, but is it too dark in our space? The second option is a soft khaki, but I fear that I will be battling dog hair. Which would you choose: truffle or khaki? Thank you!

Go with the lighter. Your space looks dark. Dog hair is the price of having furry friends. The lighter color will also work better with the introduction of leather chairs. Have you ever considered painting the room a warm white or lighter color? It would really make your fireplace a beautiful focal point and bring out the beautiful beams and wood detail.. Your current paint color causes it to recede into the wall.

This is going to probably be an off the wall comment to some, but I would have a slip cover made from washed painter’s drop cloth(s) (and If you are handy you can do this yourself + there are also no sew options for these DIY slipcovers). And this would offer you a light colored linen look - that is easy to brush off and easy to take off and wash.

And your space would really benefit by having a light colored sofa.

Once the crown is done I can play around a bit more--as is, I move everything then the trim guy moves it all out of his way. If anyone can find me the lyre/harp table that would make my day (and not on eBay as I'm not going to pay an arm-and-a-leg for shipping on something sight unseen after my chair fiasco). You've got me working back in that direction. I think I'm just going to start calling all the antique stores in the area. BTW: anyone like this floor lamp (with a red shade) better? now that you have included more photos i agree that you need to draw the red in from the rest of the house, otherwise it is going to look empty, and not cohesive, i myself love the red print in the chairs..but think that the drapery red is a good idea..you can see the green now in your photos and it is fine, a great compliment to the red. as far as making it a dining room, that works but maybe you should consider it a library/game/sitting room..you already have the great bay window with the table, make it a larger game table if you feel you need a larger one, i would put some bookcases on the other walls and then if you don't want a lot of seating, just cozy a reading area up with a lamp and a side table and either the sofa or a reading chair..and make it that wonderful look of the old wild wild west..which i said above is always victorian if you go inside those buildings with your eyes when you are watching the westerns, rather than just paying attention to the action, watch the decor, and you'll see that that is a great way to lean..and a great place for your cowby go come after a long day on the range to sit and read a book or play some poker.

Thanks, kitch! You’ve been a big help! I think I like that look best as well. I have just been admiring that big light blue pottery barn vase for a long time now and was excited to try it out. Maybe down the road I could try it on the floor in front of the mantle (at this point my toddler would have a field day with it!). Debating if I should keep it or return it and possibly rebuy later. Got it for about $100 during the friends and family sale. Hmm... What do you think about these looks for my mantle refresh? I appreciate your input! :) Option 1: current look + new throw basket (I’ll probablt put a burnt orange throw in the basket) Option 2: new vase with eucalyptus leaves + new plants on each side Option 3: swapped out the leaves for berry stems Option 4: removes small plants from left Option 5: Swapped out small plant for a slightly different plant Option 6: swapped out plant for one in a tin vase Option 7: swapped out the small plant for a small white vase Option 8: basically same setup i have now, with the addition of the vase! I really wanted to try to incorporate the mercury glass candles since I have mercury glass in other areas of the house. Any of these groupings can use the eucalyptus leaves instead of the berry stems; I just didn’t feel like taking two photos of each look! :)

How can i edit my original post to delete out the comment about the Christmas tree? People are misunderstanding me :( I'M NOT PLANNING MY ROOM AROUND THE CHRISTMAS TREE, FRIENDS lol I was simply saying that's why I didn't want built in's was because when I built this house that was my designated spot for it and I can't do that with a built in there. Y'all are so funny. I know people are crazy obsessed with Christmas so I get the confusion, people on my facebook already have their tree up! hahaha :) One of the biggest issues I am having is with artwork. I was going to put some on either side of the fireplace but when I look for lodge style artwork it looks (as my best friend lovingly puts it) like it belongs in the house of some 80 year old redneck woman living in a travel trailer and frying a deer steak LOL and yes, I hate to say I can see where she's coming from. I'm not sure how to mix none redneck art into a lodge theme/style. Deer, moose, bear, etc. all go with the lodge but all wall decor I find that have those have that 1980's redneck outdated look no matter what frame it's in.

Thank Design Interior South for the feedback! We haven’t considered painting our walls yet, but your images are very helpful. It changes the look completely! I feel I need to take the leap and go for the lighter fabric.

Thank you, psycho design! I love the practicality of the truffle fabric. I've tried to stain it, and everything keeps washing out. Both samples have "WS" codes and are 100% polyester.
