HELP:) 6th Prelim addition to log home
Comments (6)Unless you will actually use tub in the master bedroom, I would not mess with a very successful design in order to stick one in. After all, you already have two other bathtubs in the house and it is not like you're talking about putting in an extra long or extra fancy tub in the masterbath to really jazz it up. Actually, I wouldn't mess with the current design EVEN to fit in a FANCY tub that I figured I would use once a month. So I sure wouldn't do it to fit in a "standard" tub unless that tub was going to get CONSTANT (i.e. DAILY) usage. If mom just thinks she might want an occasional bubblebath, just tell DD that she'll have to let mom use her bath room on those rare occasions! However, if you must have a tub in the masterbath, the way to do it with the least impact on your current design is probably to move the shower upward so that it sits beside the bedroom. (You would have to lose that transom window so would probably want to remove both transom windows on that side.) Then, stick the bathtub against the wall where the shower is now. You might have to widen the entire bathroom by a little bit in order to make room for a shower door beside the tub. Something like this... BTW, note that if you make the shower wide enough (more than about 6 ft from wall with shower head to opposite wall, and move the shower entry so that it is as far from the shower head as possible, you can probably get away with not having a shower door at all. Believe me, not having a glass shower door to try and keep clean is a major blessing! On the whole tho, I would leave the design as it is and move beyond "preliminary drawings" to getting blueprints so you can actually start building! While it is good to spend plenty of time at the drawing stage, I think you've maybe begun to obsess a bit toooooo much. Time to move on to getting real drawings made and get started on making the dream into a reality. Obsess too long and your kids are going to be grown and out of the house and you and DH won't even need to expand. LOL!...See MoreHelp, ideas, suggestions with rustic living room (img heavy)
Comments (20)now that you have included more photos i agree that you need to draw the red in from the rest of the house, otherwise it is going to look empty, and not cohesive, i myself love the red print in the chairs..but think that the drapery red is a good idea..you can see the green now in your photos and it is fine, a great compliment to the red. as far as making it a dining room, that works but maybe you should consider it a library/game/sitting room..you already have the great bay window with the table, make it a larger game table if you feel you need a larger one, i would put some bookcases on the other walls and then if you don't want a lot of seating, just cozy a reading area up with a lamp and a side table and either the sofa or a reading chair..and make it that wonderful look of the old wild wild west..which i said above is always victorian if you go inside those buildings with your eyes when you are watching the westerns, rather than just paying attention to the action, watch the decor, and you'll see that that is a great way to lean..and a great place for your cowby go come after a long day on the range to sit and read a book or play some poker....See MoreLog house living = LOTS of wood... living room area rug help please!
Comments (11)I have lived in 2 log homes. I understand your problem! Do you have any interior stonework also? Last time I was in this position, I tried to pull the base color of the rug from the lightest tone in the stone on my fireplace, so that I didn't end up with too much going on. Jewel tones do seem to work well, also. I like the last 3 you posted in the comments. It is really hard to pick unless you can see the rugs in person, too. I ended up ordering my last rug through a local furniture store, where I could see and feel samples. They ended up being very competitive on price. I tried ordering online first, and the colors always seemed a little "off" once I got them rolled out in my wood-everywhere house....See MoreLodge/Rustic decor
Comments (2)Lovely room! Gorgeous fireplace. If you post this on the Decorating the Home forum, you will get lots of helpful ideas and advice. IMHO, I'd take the faux bear rug down since it throws off the balance of the room and weighs down that corner plus it competes with the fireplace....See Moreamykath
