I just love the colors in this bowl and I use it for raising bread...it gently holds just enough heat in the oven with only the oven light on to keep my yeast happy, eating and "farting".

Photo taken April 2, 2006 with Sony Cybershot, f/4.0, ISO 400, focal length 9.7mm, tungsten incandescent lighting After:Levels adjusted, seam in leg of character on the left removed, as well as the supporting metal bar, using rubber stamp and healing tools. This was taken with a very old camera that I bought in 2001. Later cameras that I bought automatically correct for lighting, and so less editing is necessary, but the rubber stamp and healing tools are still very useful. This was done on PC. I used a Mac only briefly in 1988 and hated it, but it was what my design partner at the time had. I've avoided all Mac and Apple products ever since. In the early 1990s I taught myself how to edit dBase programs on PC (using DOS, before Windows was released), and I would not have been able to do that on a Mac. Mac used to be better for video and sound editing, but PCs have caught up. 6 years agoI opened one of my old photo files and found this--a small example of Deruta Italian pottery, one of many pretty things I inherited from my mother-in-law. I have no idea why I took the picture. :-)
6 years agolast modified: 6 years agoJust before Christmas 15 years ago I received a large, oddly shaped box in the mail from my son who was away at college. It was somewhat triangular and had been pieced together and covered in packing tape. Inside was this 3 tier stand. I don't know how the plates managed to survive his packing and shipping but they did. We use it often for desserts, appetizers and in this photo a baby shower.

This is a fruit bowl I made into a lamp shade. Under the shade is the base of the bowl turned upside down...and painted. The base of the bowl was held on by a nut, screwed into the bowl. The bowl already had a hole in the bottom of it.

6 years agoThese are my go-to cereal bowls. I love them, they're so cheery.
But I also love my cookie jars that I use as my flour, tea and sugar canisters :-)

6 years agoA cut glass bowl that I bought recently at an antique shop just because it was very much like one in my childhood that always sat in the middle of the dining room table. It really doesn't fit in my present day décor, but it brings back to my mind the many games played on that table with family and friends. The bowl was always in attendance.

6 years agoOne of my Villeroy and Boch Geranium plates,I have 18 that I keep for special occasions.
I have always loved this pattern and unexpectedly came across some at an estate sale, in perfect condition, I was so happy!
and a Portmeirion Botanic Garden Quiche dish, which is part of my dinner service.Can you tell I love flowers!
6 years agolast modified: 6 years agoThese were made by a N. Cal potter. The first time I saw her pottery was at a craft show. Now and then, I spot it at an art gallery or gift shop. She does amazing things with glazes and sculpting raised images on to her pottery. There is probably a term for this technique, but I don't know what it is.
I love this bowl, but I don't like to put things in it because when I do that, the beautiful artwork doesn't show.
I use this one as a sugar bowl.
This pitcher is the first piece I bought and the start of what is now a small collection of this talented woman's work.

I bought this from him so that he could go to Canada with me in 1988.
6 years agoProbably this one that my son made when he was very little. He’s now in his early 50s. I remember asking him what food was blue and he said blueberries. It’s peeling away now.
Second would be this one that a friend gave to me many years ago.
6 years agolast modified: 6 years agoThe ornate dishes are mine. Those we use daily. The elegant dish was my husband's that he's passed on to our son.
But I really wanted to show y'all my project. What's blooming in my yard right now.
And another dedicated to just blue and orange since my son was trying to explain to his friend that contrasting colors, specifically orange and blue look fantastic together.

This is an art glass platter that I gave to my parents; I think I bought it at the MOCA LA gift shop shortly after it opened. They had retired to Florida from the northeast; we had a running joke about alligators.
