If you can imagine, I actually removed about 50 feet of juniper behind that big bush. It was hugely lopsided. I think that after I do whatever needs to be done on the house, I will then take to landscaping! @Patricia Coleen Consulting I really like the idea of the cedar on the left side of our house and maybe that will help with the lopsidedness as well. Also, what is the closest Sherwin Williams color to your suggested Benjamin Moore Timber Wolf? I tried to google it with no success. I'm still so torn, Granite Peak was always my top but maybe a Gray is what I should go with? I literally can't sleep with this hanging over my head but I'm going to try, and probably like in the past, I'll dream of color and paint yet again! jck910 & katinparadise - I so appreciate your feedback too. Do you know what Sherwin Williams paint color is closest to BM Storm by chance? When you mentioned the blues weren't resonating with you, can you be more specific on the paint samples I have on my house? I wasn't sure if you were looking solely at the mock ups or those as well? (And I know have some dark blues in there) as well as some lights, the one on the left up top (Poolhouse) is my fiance's favorite but it's been a NO for me almost immediately. LOL Thank you all again, and please respond if/when you can, I greatly appreciate it. Comments (8)Hillary, I am not a professional so I try to think of things that could be done by a homeowner on their own without spending a lot of money. If the grids in your doors cannot be painted then I would paint the door white. I would trim the tree so that the trunk is viable. Evaluate plants to determine if they should be relocated. It is not attractive to cover the lower windows. Plant something attractive and flowering near the door. Grow grass in the small bed at the end of the landing. The entrance will have a cleaner look with that bed gone. Comments (0)I'm getting a new roof (thanks, hail!) and would love to part with the hideous brown shingles and exterior (see below). I'm looking for a good roof + exterior paint combo that fits a mid century vibe (the home was built in 1950 and has a very mid century vibe inside that I've kept original). The outside is not so mid century? But I want the house to be cohesive. The colors I use on the inside are predominantly charcoal gray, teal, aqua, white and yellow (if that matters). ^Personally, I love this dark navy siding with bright white trim. You could go with a Red door or Yellow or even white. The color at the bottom of your large painted patches looks similar to the color above, to me.

3 years agoThank you all for responding and giving suggestions. Something probably silly but I just can't help it, I keep thinking my house will look naked without the shutters (please see photos of my house I posted above) as they add charm, I'm afraid of letting them go. So if they stay then they really need to contrast the body of the house which I can't do with a darker body (note: not a fan of white shutters at all, and honestly don't want a black shutter either - I just can't let go of that navy shutter! It's got a hold on me......is it silly to base an entire color scheme of your house on shutters?! (and the shutters are nothing fantastic, just the cheap crappy standard ones). Thoughts on that?
I'm also a bit scared of going so dark.....thought I could do it but of course now having second thoughts.
And also below is a picture I snapped with my cell phone of someone else's house that's making me think.....is this what I wanted in the beginning, and will this look spectacular on my house, or will it be drowned out by all of the other gray houses in my neighborhood (though I should side note that with all of the other grey houses don't have colunns or a farmer's porch).
With that being said, do you think a grey house, white trim and navy blue shutters would look good on my house? Something like this is what I'm thinking but of course rfn the house photos above

3 years agoBeef up the posts on the porch and remove the shutters and either paint the current entry door a nice black to stand out or if you you can get a new entry door like in the picture in a nice stain!

likewhatyoudo - Thank you so much for those gorgeous recommendations. I do feel like I need something a bit more dramatic as everyone in our neighborhood is pretty much light gray.Just curious what is the equal of BM Embers to Sherwin Williams? And regarding your suggestions of beefing up columns, we actually replaced our columns last week which I've attached today's picture here so you can see it a bit more. I would LOVE to replace our door in addition but I don't have the $$ to do that t this time. Not sure if you saw another post I actually added this morning (titled: Help! Need to decide exterior paint asap! Looking for mok ups to help) explaining I just lost my job due to COVID so I'm scraping by gettting the little work done that is currently taking place (replacing awful wood rot and the load bearing columns) , and now getting to paint. So no wiggle room for anything extra though we are trying to get our front lawn to look good this summer (fingers crossed).
I really do appreciate all suggestions though.....time is ticking and my fiance is going to ring my neck!
