I like the bump out with ..5402... it is a very elegant but simple and cost effective choice....also like the yellow door with the green...perhaps try painting the trim yellow...before you repaint the whole house

I think the green is pretty, and a bright sunny yellow door would look great. And I know people say this too often, and it’s really general, but landscaping would change the whole look. Right now it’s pretty lopsided, with everything on one side ( white garage, big rock, big bushes, cars, carport)

IMO you need a cover over the door so maybe start there . I like the green but maybe not the whole house one color. I think Beverly’s ideas are awesome but definately not cheap. Maybe adding some natural cedar to one side would help with a bit more balance and some better landscaping too. As for door color I would wait until you have done some work on the rest.

When I wanted to do something with my last home I spent a day driving around my neighborhood and close neighborhoods with homes similar to mine. Found one that was the same color as mine, same roof, but different trim and had added a trim board above the garage.

I copied what they did. I think I got a huge bang for the buck.

I like the roof thing on 5402 picture best too, and I also like the color of the house. I would not want a yellow door, or yellow trim. I like the trim white like it is. I would also prefer a pretty orange door, or a pretty turquoise color door. I agree with those above, that what you need most of all, is landscaping. Your curb appeal is not great, and thats what makes the front of your house look plain and not quite right. Its a very nice house and unlike some, I really do like bi levels.

I sadly, have to go to a meeting shortly, so don't have time to really play with the front of your home, but thinking that a little paint could really make a difference.

Possibly something really simple over the door?

I don't dislike the current color but understand you wanting to change it. Some ideas include:

1) Painting the upper floor siding a lighter color and leaving the lower the current color.

2) Paint the front door a brighter color to make it more of a focal point.

3) Adding a porch roof of some type. It could be a gable, shed style, awning, etc.

4) Replace the railing with something more substantial and continue it all the way down to the driveway.

5) Repaint the trim to get rid of the dark brown.

6) Remove the large shrub behind the mailbox and do new landscaping.

I'm not sure how you'd tie in the 5402 style treatment with the siding.

The porch roof should include some sort of fix for the bare wall on the second floor above the door. Maybe consider a two-story tall type porch roof bumpout with some kind of hanging porch light?

@Donald I agree with the lopsided look. If you can imagine, I actually removed about 50 feet of juniper behind that big bush. It was hugely lopsided. I think that after I do whatever needs to be done on the house, I will then take to landscaping!

Something about the green feels right as a starting point for me. I just like it. I think the best approach is to break it up in some way, as others have mentioned. Either with a change in material, such as the cedar siding, or adding a color, or both. The existing green is nice and looks good against the roof so I’d personally want to preserve it on the most visible portion of the house. I think I like the visual effect of the green in the landscaping below the house, then add something to break it up, and the green repeated in the upper portion of the house.

Another vote for Beverly FLA's 5402.

I’m big on choosing a front door color that is a color you love and then shifting that to work with your house. Almost any color can work on most houses, for instance if you like red you can make it darker, brighter, more neutral (like a reddish wood), or shift it towards one color or another, to be more red-violet or more red-orange, depending on what you like and what looks good with the existing colors.

I also like Bev's insp pic showing the 5402 address - it has the best look overall.

I think removing the junipers right away would help al lot on your process....

You will then get the full view and effect of the proposed changes..

Unfortunately, the doors you installed are Craftsman style, but your windows aren't. Which direction are you wanting to take the house? If you're stuck with the doors you may want to consider making it over as a Craftsman.
