Gray/Black/Charcoal Painted Interior Doors?
Comments (19)I have decided to paint our doors, which are a light, almost pickled wood that I loathe. The reason we havent done it before is that there is no way we will match or even approximate the trim, which is a high gloss, oil based paint in a creamy white. I do not want shiny doors anyway. Our wall color is light green in the main entrance area, and colors ranging from hawthorne yellow to muted golds in the bedrooms (and one a stronger green). I'm afraid black or charcoal doors will make too much of a statement and look busy and weird. I love the dark doors, but everyone who has them here on GW or on houzz has a white or light gray wall color. What colors should I try on my interior doors? A complementary white? Refinish in a darker wood tone?...See MoreMedium Stained Trim, White or Pine interior doors?
Comments (16)Pricing wise, the wooden interior doors are more than double. The front door on the house also costs a good chunk more to get a stainable fiberglass material. If I have wood interior doors, I would want at least the inside portion of the front door to be wood, too. However, it is more of an oak and limited to gel stain kits, while my trim will definitely be pine. I feel like I may have too much wood in the house after wooden birch cabinets, stained pine base, stained pine window jambs, stained pine window casing, and stained pine door casing. Wooden doors would flow with the wood trim, but they would be big chunks of stained wood. Looking around online I see a lot of painted trim and stained wooden doors but NOT near as much stained trim and painted doors. However, I have wondered if I had doors painted a darker color, then maybe the wood stained trim would not look so broken up from the doors. Hoping to get a second opinion on this idea and if anyone has some photos of what I am talking about that'd be good to look over....See MoreFavorite white for trim/ceilings/doors with a gray blue paint on walls
Comments (4)Thank you! Yes, I agree about getting samples. Mine is actually the gloss finish. If you have a lot of imperfections in the trim I wouldn't go any shinier than semi-gloss... not sure I've seen (or noticed) trim done in satin. More likely I've just never noticed it was a low sheen. If you're already looking at the BM lines, may I suggest their Advance line for your trim. It's what we used on our cabinetry and kitchen trim and it was so nice to work with. You can hardly tell the difference between what my hubby sprayed on and what I painted with a brush, it just smooths out those brush marks so nicely. Hubby said he liked it in his sprayer too. We thought it was worth the bit of extra money. It's holding up very nicely too, though it has a longer cure time than regular paint. (Something we found out when I took a microfiber cloth to some of my drawers too soon, we had to repaint those two drawer fronts. I did it when it was only about 2 weeks old, it takes about a month to really cure. Who knew that a dry microfiber cloth could do so much damage? Now I do! LOL! Apparently you're supposed to get them damp first.)...See MorePaint interior door a color other than white?
Comments (3)For some examples, I just did a simple google search of mud room door colors and got plenty of hits. The darker gray colors can look good as well as an accent color. Are you currently using an accent color in ajoining rooms? That can be a start....See MoreWestCoast Hopeful
