So, how was YOUR day?

So, I had an eventful day which could have been much much worse.

UPS came and delivered a package on the front steps. Did not put shoes on, just had my socks. I stepped on the door threshold, and with my sock, it was slippery...

yeah, you guessed it.

the next thing I know, my right foot went down hard and slipped between the four-step pre-cast [heavy] solid cement steps and the house. I was stuck, and thought I broke my ankle, or even my leg.

I was wedged in a space my foot normally would not have fit into, much narrower than the two bones [maliars] that stick out on both sides of the ankle. The more I moved, the deeper my right leg went in, to just above the shin.

I ended up having to call 911.

I won't tell you about the S T U P I D dispatcher. I told them what happened and told them to bring a come-along or the jaws of life [ to help move the cement steps].

The cops came, the ambulance came, a firetruck came. Everyone in town has a scanner. So there were the drive-by folks.

They showed up with nothing except a pry bar. Four guys couldn't budge the steps with the bar.

I told them where my pry bar was and then, between the two bars, and five guys, and my sand shovel, they managed to nudge the cement step about a half inch forward, and I was able to be extracted.

SO a bumpy ambulance ride and some downtime in the ER later, finally got an x-ray/s and determined nothing was broken. I do have a massive bruise on the inside of my right shin where I was wedged against the cement, and some scrapes and cuts on the outside of my right leg where I scraped against the metal siding of the house.

Of course, being the semi-retired former editor of the local paper and getting wedged between his front steps and the house is a REAL ego booster.

I can just imagine the next coffee break at the cop shop, the ambulance garage and the firehouse.

This is gonna take a while to heal ... I mean live down.

And my leg still hurts, but at least it isn't broke. It should look lovely tomorrow.

So, how was YOUR DAY?

... and I still don't like red wine.

I made some Boston baked beans with a CI recipe I found on line ... an all-day affair started with the overnight soak.... cooked through ... "the occurrence" ... and were pretty darn good for ... lupper..

I think it was the top 25 cast iron recipes

And this is about the worst time to need EMS too.

Glad there were no broken bones - hope you heal quickly.

Casa Lilo CA Here I am! A day late, it's the time difference. It has been raining a lot, maybe I overdid the rain-dance? When it stops for a little bit, I am rushing outside to uncover the wood-pile and get some firewood on the deck, am rushing out to scoop Gussie's poop in her "den", clean the litter box, dump the ash-can, all those nice things that generally are done whenever I get to them. Currently it has to be when weather permits. I had a dental appointment and had to cancel it when I got that nasty cold/flu, and now my dentist is not available for the whole month; he has cancer and is in SFUC for Chemo. He is such a good guy and I feel bad, but I also feel bad because I did not get my routine cleaning - and it's important, because of the periodontal problems, and now here I am with a gum-infection and no antibiotics. I have been treating it with peroxide and it is getting better, this morning I am not hurting any more, but my face is all puffed up. I do miss my Dentist! Things are bound to improve. Some gifts I have ordered have just shipped, hope they get here in time for me to send them to their recipients. I had the weird idea that I was going to wrap send send them with a personal note written by my personal hands instead of having them forwarded by the Vendor - what was I thinking? The upside of all that rainy weather is: I can't keep a clean house when it's so dark that I can't see the dirt, neither can anyone else. Seems there is always a pony in that pile of manure, isn't there?

Ouch! I bet you're typing all of this from the comfort of your BED, right, Pat? LOL Don't worry, I won't tell on you. :) I know what you mean about letting the plants alone for a bit. I'm always surprised, when I come home after a weekend away, that the plants have managed without me (and even seemed to thrive a little more, as if to say, "Leave us be! We're fine without you, lady!"). I worry about them as I would a teenager left alone. Although trust is good, mothering must be better! :D Take care of yourself, Pat! Hope you feel better soon! Thanks, Anj. I thought I'd have my tray all done, but other stuff got in the way unfortunately. It's sitting in there calling to me 'cause I only need to do a little bit more to it! LOL Maybe tonight or in the morning--although I think DH has plans for us in the morning. I enjoyed doing the tables. Did you get my "sense of humor" about the "Irish Stew" on my kitchen table????? I know I had a plastic leprechaun hat last year, but sure can't find it now. Yes, I did paint the two leprechauns many years ago--I actually think I was a better painter then because I did allot more of it. Not sure if I had them out last year or not--can't remember. I loved that little candle holder leprechaun, just made me smile. You can tell I don't take the tablesetting too seriously, just do it for the fun of it. ;o) I don't have permission to give candy to little GD. Can only give things like gummies or yogos. Can't even bake cookies and decorate them. Only sweets she gets are from her parents. They both had weight issues for a long time, and don't want her to have that problem. I imagine it will just make her want sweets more, but not my call. Bet you are looking forward to Spring too, aren't you? I love seeing all the new flowers and leaves coming out. I have some Iris and lilies blooming already. Been doing allot of yard work too, but still more to do. Hey, you go on your trip the end of the week, huh? I had a horrible day with my computer as well!! I checked my emails and saw that all of them were dated 2010. All the 2011 emails were gone...I checked the "deleted" folder and nothing there either. I looked in the other folders..nothing. I checked C drive, program files, Outlook..nothing. After a couple of hours of this, I called my server tech. He said he'd check my account and see if they were still on the server...NO. He said I (or someone else) had to have deleted the emails, therefore putting them into the deleted folder. Then deleted them from the deleted folder, thus deleting them from the server..permanently. I absolutely did not do that!! DH said, "Well, maybe you did it and forgot." I can't even tell you my reply. :( I do delete the unnecessary emails as I read them. I flag the ones I need to save. I publish a monthly newsletter for our little city and have people who write some of the columns for me via emails. I try very hard to get the paper out by the end of the month with the details of activities for the following month. So as I was preparing to start the paper for January, my writers had emailed their articles. See? Now I'm rambling, of course. The episode ended about 4 p.m. with 2 Excedrins, coffee and a nap. Pulled the cover over my head and decided I'd surface next year. But, oh no, someone mentioned that Christmas had not come yet. Deep breath...I am now wrapping zillions of gifts, preparing bedrooms for DD and grands who will come home with us after Christmas & making cookies. Yep, all at one time. No stress...

Ooooh! I got out of the house 3, count em 3xs today!

But I have to relate. One of my daughter's first calls as a cop had her chasing a guy who zoomed through a fence. The closest way to get to him was over a concrete block fence (she was a HS and college athlete). Unfortunately, the concrete blocks weren't well constructed, and crumbled, breaking her ankle!

Better to be nattered about than forgotten!

So sorry about your fall, Dave, and so glad it wasn't worse. Ice helps with swelling and leaking blood vessels. Movement helps circulation to clear out the dead cells. Take care of yourself, be careful, and get that gap filled!!

I woke up tired. I cleaned the pizza stone and started the dishwasher. I'm going to check the mail. Wrote a tiny story. That's the full extent of my useful occupation for the day. I might just cook something. Or not...

Bragu, I was going to whine about my day but I think you have me beat. Thank goodness nothing was broken, Someone was watching out for you. But yes, you will be sore for a while. Cold compresses and acetaminophen might help, unless they gave you something stronger. No wine sounds like is not going to be a problem but no other potent potables either, sorry. Hope you get feeling better in a couple of days.

Dave, even if you liked wine I don't think it would have helped that. I'm glad your ankle isn't broken, and at least the people have someone to talk about, keep them occupied during this unusual time.

Yes, indeed, although you are semi-retired, your name will live on in infamy, LOL.

I agree, ice and time, but you are going to be sore tomorrow, I think, if you are not already.

Baked beans sound good, I'd have those for breakfast with toast! I hope you heal up quickly.

My day? Completely uneventful, thank goodness!

Broken ankles can lay you up for a long time....you had a really good day....even if a bit alarming!

Sounds like you had a painful day, bragu. Pity the fire department didn’t bring the jaws of life as you suggested. Hope your bruises clear up soon.

Oh no! Thank heavens nothing was broken.....just a bruised ego for sure. Being famous, you'll be the talk of the town for sure; perhaps some will take pity and leave some baking on the doorstep!

Bad news, good news?

Bad news- what happened to you.

Good news - now you know you need to fix the problem, so the same thing will not happen to someone else. A liability lawyer's dream case.

Get well soon. You will be doing your social distancing for a while for sure.

So sorry! We had sort of the opposite here a few weeks ago. The UPS guy fell on our front steps as he was running back to his truck. He was able to get up but hobbled back to the truck. He sat there a long time before driving off.

I'm not a red wine fan, but give me Pinot Grigio and I'm happy. :-)

Can’t say I’ve ever had a day like yours. But I once helped my father-in-law set up a Gmail account, so don’t tell me I don’t know pain.

In any case, Bragu, I’m certainly glad you’re on the mend. As for the Village People, embrace their gossip—for you’ll be the center of their world, for a while.

Look on the bright side. You can stay inside and away from people while you heal and live down the embarrassment. When the pandemic is over you can emerge healed and it all will be forgotten. You won't have to attend any parties where you have to explain why you are limping or how you got that bruise.

On a serious note, I am glad you are at least sort of ok, could have been worse you could have hit your head, and I'm sending a hug and healing thoughts out to you from MI.

wow, bragu, glad you didn't break anything -- including the new monitor! I had concrete steps like that at my front porch and got rid of them as soon as I was able. I'm with dcarch in saying you'd better get that hazard corrected ASAP!

Thankful you survived without a break.

Good thing you were wearing pants.

I stepped out front early yesterday morning, barefoot, no pants, about 6am. DH still in bed. The door shut behind me. I froze. 2 second panic. The only thing to make a skirt are the stack of Misfit paper liners. BC, (Before Covid), the door would have locked behind me....it was not locked. The first week home we were locking ourselves out daily. Took a bit to break the habit.
