looking for fukushu kumquat

I need to expand my kumquat collection to include a Fukushu and I don't know which option to go with.

One Green World has Fukushu on FD in a one gallon for $33. They are OOS.

Four Winds has Fukushu on "semi dwarfing" for $29 entry size.

Logee's does not specify rootstock on their 4" offering for $30

I got a Logee's Seedless Nagami that has not flowered in four years, so they are not my first choice.

Any idea what the current 'semi dwarfing' rootstock is that FW uses?

I am on the waitlist for OGW but I wonder if they are sold out for the season or expect to restock?

Where else can I mail order this plant?

Harris Citrus never had Fukushu on their site, and now ALL their kumquats are not listed. Sadness.

Also, any ideas on shipping costs for these companies?

One green world is by far the best choice. There are some minor compatibility problems between Fukushu and the C35 rootstock 4 winds uses. Flying dragon will add 5 F added hardiness to your tree and will reduce the root pruning needed, if potted, by half. The speed at which a kumquat grows matches the speed of Flying dragons growth

If you opened this thread, I will add the evolution of my fukushu kumquat grafted on rio red grefruit seedling in 2014. It is now in 15-20L airpot, with generic potting soil amended with perlite, keramzit and bark. It is in the new location for 2 months, and this week flowered nicely. New little branches grew from the vertical stem (the last watersprout), growth that stopped now (right after full moon).

Yes, good job on your Kumquat tree. It looks much better than one would expect, having been grown inside in your climate. I got to taste three kumquat varieties growing at a botanical garden side by side, and Meiwa was clearly the best. (can't remember what the other two were but they were the most common varieties)

The number 1 reason, the seeds were free and I had 3 grafting size FD seedling left. FD and Poncirus trifoliata are the best rootstocks for Meiwa and Fukushu. FD & PT Are great for cooler climate and also produce the best quality citrus. Seville sour is the top rootstock flavor in citrus and is the choice for those that do not have Trsiteza virus. Most nurseries graft to the easiest rootstock whether they are compatible or not. they want their trees up and out fast. This is a Fukushu kumquat grafted to each of 2 trunks onto PT which is grafted to sour orange Kumquats and Sour orange are incompatible. It is grown in the same bucket light my older Fukushu on flying dragon shown above post.

I looked over the stem and all I could find are leaf stipule scars and new growth to old growth junction scars. Maybe you are seeing something I am missing. Steve
