Comments (2)I believe you're referring to the thatch that has developed from your lawn clippings. This is natural. Look at it closely and if it's thicker than a 1/4 inch you need to de-thatch. There's some methods that I've posted for this task. It's common, nothing to worry about. Go to the link provided here and scroll down to the post "Lawn turns brown." Comments (13)@texas weed I am in Austin. Apparently the first pallet was even worse, this was the better one! We are getting a lot of rain today and tomorrow so I will see what it looks like in the next couple of days As to watering more often I cannot for two reasons, first I work as does my wife, second and more importantly Austin is in a sever drought right now with insane water restrictions. With new sod I get some exceptions but not a lot! As it stands I can only water every other day for 1 more week then it is 2x a week for a couple of weeks then I am on full restriction. Every Sunday before 10am OR after 7:00pm. That is why Bermuda is now the only grass to code. No more st. Augustine....See Moreare dried grass clippings green or brown?
Comments (4)Lots of discussion/debate on this question over the years. The hang-up is that what many think is "dried" usually isn't...dried enough to be called a carbon that is. ;) I have linked a couple of the best prior discussions for you if you want to review them for more details and there are many more that a search using "grass clippings" will pull up if interested. But I think the easiest way to go is to think of so-called "dried grass clippings" as a mixture of the two - sure they are part carbon (or browns) but they also still contain a high % of nitrogen (green) no matter how dry they are. So treat them as a great addition to your compost but weigh them equally on both sides of the green/brown question. Then if you note an odor developing you'll know they were still 'mostly' green and you can then add more carbons or vice-versa. ;) Dave Grass clippings - green or brown When green turns brown...See MoreSo confused about whether grass clippings are brown or green!
Comments (9)I had a dump pile that the landscapers and previous owners and then ourselves dumped into. It’s been sitting there for years. It’s turned into soil or compost but I had to clean out ivy roots that grew through it and it seems very dry can I still use this as a compost also our grass is full of weeds right now so when i cut it it’s not all green either some of the grass clippings are brown due to stress. In the fall we are reseeding. When we moved in house had been empty for five years. Anyway I’m trying to get it looking darker and richer how can I do this. Also the pile is very large. I did use some of it in a garden bed i weeded. Just trying to figure out if I can get it richer. This year I’ve been adding kitchen scraps and turning it. I’m in some 6....See MoreSkybird - z5, Denver, Colorado
