Thank you 😊 so beautiful and I don’t even like many reds. How is the color in person? Cool blue undertones or warm? I like the cool tones like dark desire, Bordeaux and Darcey bussell but I am not a big fat of the orange reds. I have been hopping to have someone who can tell me about it.

Definite blue undertone similar to those you mentioned., a true deep cherry red. Definitely one of the best modern reds out there for those of you who have other softer colours to consider. Very light if anything for fragrance. Thorny and super vigorous, zero BS. It didn't bloom at all its first year and is slowly building in a less that premium space. Chris from Newflora said this one needs sun for best bloom and I agree. Cori Ann had some great posts on it a while back and I started another thread after seeing an older specimen at Freedom Gardens planted next to Princess Alexandra of Luxembourg.

I love Kenneth's threads. Every time I see he's put up new post I'm like, "Oh, Kenneth is going to show me another rose I need to buy!"

I don't even like reds. I have no reds, and the last one I grew I shoveled pruned after a couple years for not other reason than I don't like reds. But dang, Kenneth posts a red and I'm putting in on the list.

You guys are sooo kind!! Daniela for me florentina is a truest red as she can get i have other reds but none hold the red like she does i own 5 !!!

Outstanding as usual, Kenneth! I planted one on each side of my arbor two months ago. They are coming along but this weather isn't helping. 84F one day and freezing two nights later! I'd love to see at least one flower this year just to see the color because I have actually seen the color listed on one site as an orange! It was a toss up between Florentina or Lady in Red. Finally I just ordered to get it in before they were out.

Ikaye, definitely NOT orange! Kenneth's pictures skew more orange on my screen as compared to what I see in my yard. Mine didn't bloom year 1 from ARE, just FYI, but it was in a pot. Lady in Red is a much more demanding rose in terms of its colour, suiting a solo spot IMV. It totally demands all the attention and while a pure red is a much more "modern" red. I put mine by itself between some greenery. It hasn't leafed out yet. I know what you mean about this wacky weather. : -((

Kenneth, might you be working for Heirloom Roses? I just got an e-mail that they have Florentina on sale. Haha! You are a good enabler.

I wouldnt suggest florentina own root mine is grafted on multiflora .

May I ask why not, Kenneth? Mine is OR from ARE and while it was slow to bloom the first year due to being kept in a pot, it has quickly grown into a giant.

Idk with the arborose collection there all grafted and people all ask me why there kiss me kate is different and the only difference i find there own root im grafted .

Interesting. I have read that Multiflora is a very vigorous rootstock. I'm not sure how much more vigor I could take from Florentina! LOL! However, it's worth considering with KMK. I remember Chris from Newflora talking about this and at one time not all the roses were offered OR until they proved themselves. Thank you for your experience. I suspect your care and siting have something to do with the "difference" :-0

Kenneth is your Florentina in all day sun? I have a spot with morning sun and afternoon shade and I was wondering if it would work there. In my experience Kordes like all day sun here, but I am out of all day sun spots right now.

Dianella, I am all ears for Kennis reply. However Chris from new Flora did say that Florentina requires Sun and my experience here has born that out. Mine is in a dappled Sun situation and I think this is why I do not get the tremendous repeat Bloom other people seem to. I will see this year if that is truly the case since some of the trees that were shading it have been removed. Of course, we are in different zones.

All 5 of my floretinas are in full sun . Kordes dont like shade i noticed that i got a zaide and he was in part sun he was not growing moved him to full sun forget it .. took right off

Florentina is an awesome Rose, if you don't require fragrance. It is actually moderately shade tolerant, but it will affect its flower-power quite adversely. The thing is bulletproof, and has absolutely no disease. I love the rose, even if I find it quite taunting that the thing has no fragrance.

I love florentinas red so much it screams LOVE !! Her beauty makes up for her lack of fragrance . Wow ! Wow ! Shes up there with kiss me kate in my book !!!

Kenneth, any experience with Tangerine Skies Arborose? Seems like I've been adding one Arborose a year here.

Ha! I have been debating putting Florentina or Tangerine Skies on a telephone pole (in screaming hot sun) and I love seeing this post that mentions both!

Since you grow both, which is the most floriferous? I suspect Florentina would likely be it and would likely do better on the telephone pole, but I’m not sure. What do you say?

think hes on facebook or something now with a nice following. Cant remember his tag there, but @Lilyfinch z9a Murrieta Ca, comments on his roses from time to time. H does spray, but otherwise is a good bell weather for our types of growing conditions.

I just recently got Tangerine Skies grafted. I am hoping it isnt super bright garish orange. That sounds dumb but I thought for some reason, it would have some pinks or corals in it besides orange. I got it to grow over my barn gate posts that we just put in, infront of the barn but if its gonna be bright hot red orange idk...

I wonder if Kenneth’s rose is actually Tangerine Flames. To me Tangerine Skies is a lighter apricot-orange color, and a larger bloom like a HT. Here is Tangerine Skies from my local nursery last year

I did plant it on that telephone pole @Lilyfinch z9a Murrieta Ca partly because of the thorns--anything to deter folks from taking it (people have pulled up whole plants and removed containters even from my garden!). I think I am still going to get tangerine skies and golden opportunity climber. Where will they go? Oh who knows.... haha

@sultry_jasmine_nights (Florida) Tangerine Skies is screaming orange. Any subtlty you see in this photo is probably just the lighting. :)

It is very thorny and stiff. Even on a cow panel which is ideal for managing climbers it is a challenge. It's one I keep considering introducing to the shovel. Probably won't do it this year becasue I'll be happy with anything that survived winter. Middle Tn dropped 58 degrees in 12 hours down to -4 with 30-40 mph winds.

Subk that is very pretty! I just dont think TS coloring would work for the place I was thinking to plant it because it might clash and overpower other stuff. Bright orange was what I was afraid of lol. Yours would look good with something blue planted under it. Thanks for posting this.
