Any experience with Florentina Kordes climbing rose?
Comments (86)I have a question..I'm leaning towards Florentina. I have a block wall(6' high) and on one side of an entrance over which I have a sort of trellis.. I have Sombreuil and was thinking of Florentina on the other side. The wall faces north west..so gets plenty of sun in the afternoon..would Florentina be OK in this location? Morning shade. Sombreuil is positively thriving. In fact huge!! Sombreuil has covered the trellis and heading off in the other direction along the wall..I removed the 2nd Sombreuil from the other side of the entrance so she wouldn't cover my garage!! I i live in Oregon in zone 7. I moved the other Sombreuil in early summer and she is taking off in spite of our 100 degree heat wave!! Any one wants a gung ho rose Sombrueil is it!! Does need dead heading to keep blooming though....See MoreHoneymoon aka Florentina
Comments (8)I'm sorry - I can understand the frustration. This has happened to me more than once and after working hard to prepare a spot, baby the plant along (whether it needed it or not), then only to find out it is not the correct rose and may have to wait another year is maddening. I hope, somehow, you can find one soon. Beautiful rose, though! Florentina is on my list for next year. I would love to grow Honeymoon as well - the pictures are fantastic - but I already have White Eden and Sombreuil. Another white rose in the mix may be too much - or maybe not :)...See MoreWhy isn't my Florentina blooming?
Comments (7)My Florentina finally has some buds. I was ok with wairing until next year to see blooms so this is a nice surprise . She has a ton of foliage and I'm not sure how to deal with all the branches that are no where near the trellis....See Moreeveryone needs a kiss me kate
Comments (38)Mine gets full sun for most of the day, shade from about 4 o’clock on. It grows tall really fast, easily ten feet straight up under the eaves, not wider than 5 ft along the wall and I train and prune it to keep it from sticking out too far. Definitely more up than out for me. She is not flexible, so a gentle fanning out of her canes is the best I am able to do. I wish I could bend her more to encourage laterals, but I’m realizing she isn’t made for that....See MoreVaporvac Z6-OhioRiverValley
