The cream color in the bottom pictures seems to work. My recommendation would be to simply the color palette.

HI -- Well , the house is charming but all the white is kind of highlighting what you don't like . That front right gable looks off to me , actually both gables do.. Actually , I have never seen this done the way they are . I would get advice from an Architect to see if that can be changed before you paint . And cedar shakes would look better than the fish scales . But if that is not affordable at this time , then painting out all the white is what will help . A very dark navy or a green based black will go with the brick if you decide not to paint the brick . Brick can be painted using the right paint - it is done all the time . Look at Spray-net.com or check out Houseandhome.com or some of those folks on HGTV .

I would paint out that gable, and paint out all the white, but, I sure would not be painting that beautiful brick. I like the quirky look of your house. It has a style all its own, nothing cookie cutter there. I like that a lot. I wouldnt do a limewash either. House looks better just the way it is. Why create more maintenance where you have almost none.

Agree...don't paint the brick. It's one of you home's nicest features. I like the white you currently have...nice contrast with the brick. Paint all downspouts to blend with the brick.

Hopefully one of the pros here can help with the fish scales and balancing triangle.

Thanks for the advice and opinions. Please keep them coming. We bought the house two years ago, which was built in 1997 (but looks much older IMO). I've heard from neighbors that the builder did not like original homeowner's plans. I've had some designers and an architect come for ideas, and usually, they'll say, "I'm not normally a fan of painting brick, but this orangish-pink brick is one of the uglier bricks I've seen." Maybe I should look into lime-washing instead of painting? I'm still torn about how to best bring this very non-cookie cutter house into the 21st century. We bought the house for the curb appeal of the back yard but need the front to say, "Welcome Home," too.

That roofline is just bizarre. I don't know how it's fixed without spending lots of money. It's like the original owners started with a standard home design and started picking and choosing elements from different designs and told the architect to make it happen.

HI -- See if you can get the original house plans , that might help . I have so much to say for ideas for this house but it would take you an hour to read it . Just keep looking for picture examples of what this house could be and what you like . A lime wash will not last as long as a proper paint job.

That house looks like it would be comfortable inside. Those backyard windows are fab.

I seriously didn't notice the issue with the front gable until someone pointed it out. It does look like the builder changed his/her mind about the design mid-way through the project.

Since you don't seem to have leaves yet, you might leave in snow country? That would be my biggest concern with the "unique" front gabling.... whether snow and runoff creates a problem. You have that figured out already?

I'd send the money redoing the roof over the turret (if that is what it's called). I'm surprises an architect hasn't already suggested that.
At first glance, I thought tge house was very charming including your railings and balisters. It's tge roofline you don't like. Fix that.

HI -- OK everyone ...today you can paint brick with no maintenance . The paints they make now make it safe to paint brick or stucco . I painted my stucco over thirty years ago in a 4 season area with no problems in all that time . We just did new paint last year only for a color change . Times have changed so update your thinking ...please !

The very last picture you posted appears to have dark cattle panels leaned up against both ends of the house. Why? They are very very rustic, but your house isn’t.

Have you talked to an architect about getting rid of the gable?
