Help bring life to my dining room please
Comments (28)I made my own runner and matching placemats. My table measures in the 50's. I used about one yd of fabric. No, I do not have a sewing machine. I hand sewed everything. It's not hard, just turning the edges under, and doing an invisible stitch on the underside. By doing this, I saved a decent amt of $, and got to use the fabric that I wanted. It did not take a lot of time. Something that you might consider.! To me, your dining room is crying out for some curtains. Use curtains that are almost sheer. Your room needs something that is light and bright. That's where I would start, and then bring in a coordinating fabric for the runner and placemats. Good luck!...See MoreHELP ME FIND A RUG TO BRING MY ROOM TOGETHER
Comments (1)I can’t enlarge your pics but your DR does not have room for a rug in fact it barely has room for the furniture. From what I see of the LR there seems to be a lot of stuff in there maybe try decluttering a bit and take some pics that can be enlarged....See MoreHelp me marry my modern gray sofa to my transitional-ish living room
Comments (50)I'm pretty sure the real reason (as opposed to it just being about my superior tastes, lol) that the mister defers questions on all decor and furnishing matters to me, is so he won't have to disappear for an undetermined length of time like the OP's husband. ;) The rug thing has always been a bit confusing to me when the house has what looks like lovely hardwood flooring - rugs cover that up! Unless it's a basement, in which case I totally get wanting to be able to use the space during the winter and not freezing in the process, therefore a rug if not carpet is needed. I can't tell if the curtains are sheers? Honestly I'm more of a 'put blinds up' for windows kind of gal, if the windows require covering for privacy (don't want to give the neighbors a show or anything, lol). Window coverings also help protect darker upholstery from fading due to sun exposure, and to a lesser extent the same goes for noticeable fade and discoloration of lighter colors. Everyone loves a room with lots of big windows providing natural light, all I can think of is what their utility bills during the summer must be like and that they probably don't have a sapphire blue velvet sofa they're anxious to keep from fading and vacuum religiously despite the utilization of a throw blanket strategy to win the war against dog fur....See MoreHelp me Bring my Family Room to Life!
Comments (13)I like the idea of using a cheerful yellow rug and accent pillows in your family room, pulled from the art on your bar counter (my eye was actually drawn to the glass of orange juice/mimosa at the bar, lol, but I decided to use the art as inspiration instead :-D ): Everything you currently have (except the kitchen counter top) is a cool-toned color; a little warmth from the yellow would definitely liven things up. I would also look for art with a splash of yellow in it, and pastel yellow sheer curtains. I'm not a professional, though, so maybe I'm going in the wrong direction... but dang, this room just begs me for yellow, lol!...See Morealways1stepbehind
