Help me decorate my family room!
Comments (27)Thanks for the feedback everyone. I am recovering this week fron an injury and bored, bored, bored, bored, bored! It is SPRING outside which makes it worse! Because I can't do much, I thought I would at least try to make myself useful on Garden Web. :) Az- Your piece over the mantle was actually resized from something I found online. I know Hobby Lobby and Garden Ridge get tons of stuff every year. Also try garden centers. I couldn't find an online source because I guess that shipping for something that large and heavy is prohibitive. The windows were pieces from an iron shop online that I scaled to fit your window. Those were almost 15", but they have different designs in different sizes. They have a 200 page book of iron that is great fun to look at (but their web navigation is less than stellar) --- I think you are right about a lighter table. I love that your furniture is so grounded, but a little lightness would be great. Something like that one in Daisy's living might be nice. OH! I love those mirrors Johnatemp posted! I have copper on the brain right now. I have been searching for months for the perfect vintage copper tray to go under my dog dishes. (Yes, you read that right:)...See Morefamily room, help bringing it together!
Comments (7)I agree with you. The windows are stunning! You could try putting the chairs on one wall facing the sofa on the other wall and the TV where the sofa is now (in a nice cabinet). If the cords are an issue, you could strategically place a large plant or something to direct traffic around the left side, which would also highlight your gallery wall. This arrangement should feel cosier and give each seat have a view of both the fireplace and the TV. I don’t generally like the look of an area rug on a carpet but, if you’ve found a look you like, try it....See MoreHELP ME FIND A RUG TO BRING MY ROOM TOGETHER
Comments (1)I can’t enlarge your pics but your DR does not have room for a rug in fact it barely has room for the furniture. From what I see of the LR there seems to be a lot of stuff in there maybe try decluttering a bit and take some pics that can be enlarged....See MorePlease help me bring new home back to life!
Comments (17)Whatever colors you choose, get a sample pot and paint a large piece of board or cardboard in that color. Look at it at different times of day since the light changes. We see too many sad posts on Houzz where people have been disappointed in the way a color looks over larger areas, and in outdoor light. When you do your plants, make your beds at least 6 feet deep. That may seem huge, but you need to have the first foot along your house bare, so you can access it for maintenance. Then, any decent size shrubs will probably be about 4 feet wide at maturity. (Check your tag on online where you'll see this information. ) That leaves you a foot in front of the shrubs if you want to plant any annuals. When you plant a shrub that's 4 feet wide at maturity, the center of the planting hole should be 3 feet from your house (2 feet from the center to the edge of the mature shrub, plus one foot space to house.) Before your shrubs are mature it may look a bit bare. Just plant self-seeding annuals in between and you'll plant fewer every year as the shrubs grow. I like annual white sweet alyssum which doesn't have deep roots and won't interfere with the shrubs' growth. Or use native plants that behave the same way. (We don't know where you live.) It's less expensive and more beautiful than mulching a large area with bark chips, and it will come back from seed next year. Google "green mulch" and you'll see what other have to say about this idea. If there is someone in your neighborhood whose front garden you admire, stop by when they are outside and ask about it. I have given so many cuttings and divisions of my garden plants to people. https://www.houzz.com/magazine/new-ways-to-think-about-all-that-mulch-in-the-garden-stsetivw-vs~25100660...See Morepswmommy
