Week 91: What's for breakfast?
Comments (41)I need breakfast. Could skip lunch and even dinner but breakfast sets me up for the day. Monday through Friday: A serving of hot whole grain cereal (Bob's Red Mill 7-Grain is my fav) In winter I add a chopped apple while it's cooking. In summer, it's seasonal berries instead. I top w/ a tiny drizzle of real maple syrup, some steamed skim milk and a smattering of toasted walnuts. On the side I have a small fruit cup of chopped citrus w/ a dollop of yogurt. One cup of coffee with frothed skim milk. My DH loves a hearty breakfast - I don't like heavy or meaty food in the morning. On Saturdays he gets his fix at a breakfast place near our home which has a "Cheers-like" atmosphere. He always gets poached eggs on their homemade hash smothered in hollandaise with buttered rye toast on the side. I enjoy socializing with the workers & regulars, but I can't start the day with a meal like that! Sunday morning - every Sunday morning - it's crepes made by DH. I make crispy bacon to serve on the side and prepare seasonal fruit to put on top or have in a fruit cup with yogurt. The crepes are drizzled and rolled with real maple syrup. I serve marmalade or jams for those who like that as a topping. In summer when I pick berries I make fresh blueberry or raspberry syrups. Lattes for adults & the kids get chocolate milk on Sunday mornings;) The Sunday morning crepe breakfast/brunch is a "thing" with our family. We've done it since our kids were little and now our grandkids look forward to it, too. My weekday staples -...See MoreWhat's for breakfast
Comments (29)eld, I don't have a real recipe but all you need to collect is a dozen eggs, half cup of cooked bacon or sausage or ham or whatever meat, a total cup of chopped raw veggies like onion and peppers, or wilted spinach, half cup of cheese, and the seasonings of your choice. Preheat oven to 375F, grease a muffin tin or use liners. Cook bacon or sausage and drain well, set aside. Beat a dozen eggs in a bowl, add the chopped veggies and seasonings and combine well; stir in the meat and cheese. I use my 1/3 cup scoop to fill the tins....divide any extra evenly. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes. I like to add a bit of minced jalapeno pepper for some spice....See MoreWhat's For Breakfast?
Comments (15)I don't use a recipe for biscuits. I looked over the biscuit thread when it was made, tried a few times and suddenly, my biscuits were good and I didn't need a recipe. Kind of like the time one actually rides a bicycle to the end of the block, suddenly I had a skill I didn't have before....See MoreWhat's for breakfast today?
Comments (61)Artemis, I make overnight steel cut oats about 3 time's a week thru the cold weather for the boys. Simple... 1 cup steel cut oats 4 cups water Add them to the slow cooker/crock pot, stir, cover, cook on low overnight. If you want to add cinnamon wait until right before serving or the cinnamon tends to stick around the edge of the crock and burn. You could add finely diced apples, dried fruit, or nuts night before. I usually just make it plain as that the boys preference....See MoreWalnutCreek Zone 7b/8a
