LindaC and others up north - how're you doing?
Comments (26)We got hit here too, 8 inches of very heavy wet stuff. I spent 2 hours shoveling the driveway, the deck, the backyard. Cooper is afraid of the snow and he pooped in the house twice. He's a Michigan dog, fer crying out loud. I finally just tossed him out. He got even by chewing up the cat's catnip mouse and throwing up. We're supposed to get another foot, at least, and we have blizzard warnings. 50 MPH wind gusts, blowing and drifting, white out conditions. Yup, it's winter and it's Michigan. The snowplow plowed me in this morning, Ashley never made it to work/school. There was a 3 foot wall of wet snow at the bottom of the driveway but I just put the Jeep in 4 wheel drive and went to work, not a hesitation. Have I mentioned that I LOVE that Jeep? LOL. We'll see what tomorrow brings, and I have to get out to the farm and check tanks and hay feeders too. It's about 10F here now, but the windchill is way lower than that. Comments (5)Thank you for asking. Lulie. Things are OK here...I think we're settling into a pattern of coping daily. The pain of our loss is still sharp, but we look for ways to help each other, and we do find joy in lots of things and events. The joy we feel is always tempered, however, and painful memories continue to poke and sometimes nearly cripple us...and almost always, it happens when we least expect it. We're happy to see spring starting to arrive, but spring brings Mother's day, Millie's birthday (could she possibly have been 9 this May!), and then the horrible anniversary of their deaths on June 17. These are tough, tough days to endure. We see our granddaughter, almost 3, born just 2 weeks before the accident, and she's a great joy. Her mom and dad (our middle son) just suffered a miscarriage a few weeks ago...how we were looking forward to another grandchild. But, they've come to grips with it, and we are trying to also. Blessings to all of you who visit this forum, and I wish you all the best in dealing with your adversities and finding meaning in a life lived after tragedy. I have to admit that Brycesmommy's wonderful news about her Valentine's day twins has brightened my world. She deserves some real happiness....See MoreHow do you cope when everything is a mess???
Comments (26)I think I need the wine this morning already. Power company has showed up, worker has drawn a circle around the power pole in back yard in fluorescent paint, says he doesn't know why, he's just the messenger, the army is to follow, but he suspects the pole is coming down for some reason. Meanwhile, the DH the Sweaty Equity has taken a day off to look for morel mushrooms and get some r&r. Our temp. kitchen is a camper and it's in the path of the power line work and I cannot do anything about the positioning of it because the tow car is also gone for mushrooms. And the whole camper has stuff strewn about because the kitchen has moved into it, but I'm not going to pack it up again in order to move the camper unless I know I have to. So it goes. Naturally, it's overcast and threatening rain, which we can use, but it does nothing for MY morale. On the good side, though, I can see progress in the new space. DH has figured out how to shim the marriage of two floors and has hired a consultant to help him think through some structural and electrical issues. And the landscaper left on Monday giving me the assurance about the driveway and sidewalk that "this is going to work out." Her drawings will be available soon! Come to think of it, I'll stick to coffee, at last until noon....See MoreHow to Cope? My Dog Passed Yesterday
Comments (87)Adding my sympathy and tears, AK. I lost my almost 15 year Brittany Sam in Feb. 2015; he was the smartest dog I have ever seen, and so happy. Sam greeted each day by taking a squeaky toy in his mouth, holding his head high, and marching through the house squeaking his good morning happiness. I know his time had come, and as hard as it was, I know that I was doing what was best for my sweet boy. The vet and I both cried, as he had grown up with her as his vet. As Faron says above, I knew that it would be an honor to Sam if I adopted another dog that needed a home. I did just that last May when I did my first transport for the rescue org. I'm involved with. Everything lined up and it was just perfect when they needed me to foster her temporarily. When she gave me a face full of kisses as the previous driver handed her off to me, I knew I wanted to make her mine. Two days later I learned that I could adopt her. Before my late dog-loving Dad died in 2007, he had hospice care at home. They gave us a booklet on what to expect to see him do. We were ready when Dad started looking at the ceiling, especially the corners, and said, 'They have dogs up there.' Mum and I smiled, knowing that he'd be fine, and he'd see his past dogs there, as stratfordroad's beautiful sign above says. When we lose a beloved pet, we wonder how we can go on, but a day will come when you think about Maddie and smile, thinking of the wonderful years you had with her....See MoreMaria Elena (Caribbean - USDA Zone 13a)
