I'm married to a Steelers fan, so Sunday wasn't a happy day -- record-setting blizzard AND Brady getting another ring). Anyway, I did the rough math and decided that by the time I pay my GC to install and painter to paint my doors, they won't be much cheaper than going with a much better product. Plus, my GC doesn't do exterior doors everyday and I know there's a real benefit to having the experts handle install. I've talked to a few local folks and been advised that HomeGuard is a bit of a better value than Provia -- less expensive and still quite good. I've been quoted $4400 to install factory-painted HomeGuard doors - two 36"x80" flush steel doors plus two 16'x80" sidelites with low E and argon glass. Is this a decent price? And a good way to go? Thanks for the suggestions. The siding is fiber cement and I can have it painted on site. I had this cost estimated since we are adding the garage from another contractor and I wanted the colors to match. I will check on the board and batten and what the different window size options are next week. I think the dormer windows can be taller, however the downstairs may be the max height. I am hopeful that landscaping will have a huge impact. Entry from the side is not possible due to protected trees. The property is gated and the house/garage will be close to 400' from the road so pilfering is not likely and I don't think the horses next door are going to mind seeing our "stuff" I am not crazy about all white. I guess we could go with white initially and then when the garage is built we could choose to paint it then if we really don't like it. What about the porch railing, any suggestions for something different ?

I would go with a 30” standard size orehung unit . If you need the width to bring appliance or whatever down I would see if a 32“ door would fit. This may require to remove the casing to see what the rough opening actually is and may require narrower casing In the outside or cutting the siding back. Never had a case where I wish there was a more narrow door but many where an in or to wider would have been godsend. I never use custom withs only heights. These are questions and answers your. Contractor should be able to answer. I would hate to have one of my customers feel the need to go to a forum for questions that. I could not answer.
