Exterior colors and window options?

We are planning to build this modular home. I am daydreaming of color/design options. ( I have to do something to take my mind off the loan process.)

There will be a 3 car 1.5 story garage to the right of the home, it will be facing the same direction as the house, just farther back. I really like some of the pics where the garage is a different color completely but I am not sure I have the guts to do that.

Please suggest color options and if you think the windows would look ok without the grids and/or arched windows. My husband likes dark greens. I like greige or dark blue maybe.. I want more of a modern farmhouse style and no idea how to get that.

The first pic is flipped because that it is the direction our home will be when built. The second pic is the same home with a different style garage after some landscaping and shutters.

A few things could make it more modern farmhouse. Don't know if you have the options.

1. I would definitely keep the grids in the windows. Otherwise it looks like two holes.

2. Is there a way to make the windows larger downstairs? Do you have the option to change it at all?

3. No shutters.

4. Can you switch to board and batten instead of lap siding? That would give it a more modern aesthetic.

5. Personally, I'm not a fan of the arched windows. It reminds me of all the houses from the 90's.

6. Can the center dormer be a double window instead?

I'm assuming that the house will either be vinyl or aluminum siding so your colors are limited. If that is the case, stick with white - you'll never regret it.

I like the house as it is but would like larger windows on the first floor if that is an option. 8 over 12 is a lovely size - brings in light and gives a house presence both inside and out. A farmhouse would never have had arched windows and I'd drop them - just double hung windows with mullions.

Is your lot large enough to turn the garage to either face to the side or the back? I have a "thing" about garages opening to the front. Most are stuffed with "stuff" and when open, look untidy, plus can be an invitation to pilfering.

If you want a pop of color, paint the front door a bright color. Then add landscaping to add color and depth.

So there are a couple things going on. The front door, currently, blends in with the house. And the garage door is like a siren with neon lights flashing. You want to reverse that. Garage door should match the siding so it blends in, and then dial the front door up so people know you actually have one. Is the front door light not turned on, or is there not a front door light? If this were my house, I'd consider smaller lamps for the garage door and a larger lamp for the front door. Regarding color for the front door, I'd get a color wheel and find the complimentary color for the house siding and go from there. As it is now, that front area of the house looks really depressing.

Thanks -- the current windows have an amalgamation of rot, stripped cranks, leaks, all that good stuff. And my electric bills are over $600 in winter, with smart thermostats and little usage overall (I'm all electric, in the mountains.) I have been considering painting everything the same, or at least close to it. But I don't really like ivory. Or beige. As for looking like holes, I don't think it will? maybe at night, but so what. lol. The daytime views are worth it. It's such a big project and big expense, I'm just freaking out a little bit, and my usual go-to professional helpers are swamped with other projects. But I think I need to find someone in person.

Thanks for the suggestions.

The siding is fiber cement and I can have it painted on site. I had this cost estimated since we are adding the garage from another contractor and I wanted the colors to match.

I will check on the board and batten and what the different window size options are next week. I think the dormer windows can be taller, however the downstairs may be the max height. I am hopeful that landscaping will have a huge impact.

Entry from the side is not possible due to protected trees. The property is gated and the house/garage will be close to 400' from the road so pilfering is not likely and I don't think the horses next door are going to mind seeing our "stuff"

I am not crazy about all white. I guess we could go with white initially and then when the garage is built we could choose to paint it then if we really don't like it.

What about the porch railing, any suggestions for something different ?

I would do green if you like green. If you can do board and batten that will help to make it more contemporary. Once you nail down the specifics, we can play with color more.

Want to be daring? Light green with a slightly yellow cast for the main body and do the porch railings and trim in charcoal.

The green just doesn't make me smile...

This one does... and at Christmas we could have a yard full of light up flamingos instead of traditional christmas decor :)
