dish drawers: Fisher Paykel vs. Kitchenaid vs. kenmore
Comments (23)ChiSue, The drain hoses flex every time the drawers are opened/closed but there's no immediate concern unless they're leaking. They're designed to be flexible but cracking at some point of aging is a fairly common thing. The fill hoses also flex but they're more of a stretchy/rubbery material than the drain hoses. My lower drawer drain hose had a crack a few inches behind the drawer. Both had cracks where they exit behind the unit and made a sharp turn toward the left through the cabinetry partition. Impossible to see back there when the unit is in place so I have no idea how much bend is in effect on the new hoses. :-| KA discontinued drawer dishwashers a few years ago. The only brand currently on the US market is F&P, and possibly DCS (which is owned by F&P). I considered updating to the latest model (tall upper drawer!) and the racking is more adjustable now ... but decided to fix the DD603....See MoreByrant Evolution vs. Lennox Signature
Comments (21)Thanks for the great feedback. Sorry for the lengthy post. Basically we went into this purchase not knowing anything about what was new and great in this HVAC space so it's been a learning experience. Any maybe I was asking the wrong questions originally. After what we have learned through this buying experience I think I am more interested in the recommendation for the type of systems we should be considering. Then we can consider the bids. This was our criteria going in: 1. We know we need to replace our existing system due to increased maintenance costs year after year for both furnace and AC, age, and the AC A-coil (?) pan is leaking and can't be fixed (rusted out). 2. We have a difficult time cooling our second level and heating our basement even after manually changing the baffles each Spring and Fall (3 manual zones). I basically guess on where they should be set and leave them there for the season. We definitely have pockets of heated and cooled areas. 3. Decrease our heating and cooling bills considering cost vs. return. 4. Purchase a quality system from a reputable vendor at a fair price. It's the "quality system" I can't do myself because I don't know much about this other than the research I do on the internet, which is hit and miss as you know. 5. My wife doesn't like the booming noise the furnace makes when it starts (which is probably really loud compared to any new model regardless of type). :-) Overall we are more concerned about heating than cooling in this area. We never gave much thought to dehumidification going into this before we talked to reps and read the forums. I think it's probably less important given it's typically only a month or two out of the year where we worry about it. Actually we are probably more concerned with the opposite, humidification, in the winter months. The house is dry. That is why we are considering adding a whole house humidifier. I think from what I've learned here and our #2 above is that we want to go with automatic zoning. Given that Tigerdunes I feel like we should be considering your options 1 and 2 with a 2-stage AC??? Maybe we can focus on those bids/equipment. Does that make sense and reduce the TMI? Thanks again....See MoreInduction Slide in Range, Kitchenaid vs Bosch
Comments (13)We upgraded to KitchenAid induction last year and love it. The cooktop is very responsive to temp changes you make. Can be at a full boil and if you change it to low it stops boiling right away. The simmer feature is also great. The cooktop has a lock feature which is nice. They were (and I believe still are) offering a nice set of free cookware with purchase. They are really great, but took several weeks to arrive. Until we received them we made do with some random pans we bought. The new pan set made all the difference in the world. I just didn’t want to spend several hundred dollars on a new set since I knew they were sending me a set. The oven is large and has a steam setting which I haven’t used yet. There’s also a shallow warming drawer. I have nothing but positive things to say about the range. We are building a new house and I researched gas ranges till my eyes crossed. In the end we have decided to get another KitchenAid induction....See MoreBosch vs Cove vs Miele dishwashers
Comments (79)We bought Subzero, refrigerator and freezer, a large Wolf gas range and we got pushed into buying a Cove dishwasher. What a mistake. After 32 days, the dishwasher failed simply saying call service. We are in West Los Angeles, and there is only one company that does warranty work on Cove dishwashers, Box Appliance Repair. We waited two weeks for the first appointment and were told that we needed a new wash pump and it would take a week or two to get it and then they could schedule a follow up appointment. We pressured Cove and they expedited getting the pump so we only had to wait an additional 2 1/2 weeks. Today the technician replaced the wash palm and found that we also bad electronics. He replaced two circuit boards and found that a mechanical relay was also defective. We are now being told that once they get the mechanical relay they will schedule an appointment, probably two weeks away. So, all told we got 32 washes in before multiple parts failed. I told a friend of mine that I bought a Cove and he just started laughing. We have calls and emails into Cove now asking them to replace the dishwasher or give us our money back. I will post the outcome once this dishwashing nightmare is over....See Morescott araujo
