Memory quilt
Comments (11)Lovely quilt. Deanna: It's okay to mix cottons and blends, just be careful about your temperature on the iron. Poly's tend to slither around, so I don't LIKE using them when quilting, but this is a special circumstance. I wouldn't try mixing the denim with the light fabrics because the different weights of the fabrics won't work well together. I'm not saying it can't be done, just that it becomes very challenging. Comments (6)I hosted a baby shower for my sister a couple of years ago. As one of the shower activities, I wanted to make a quilt for the baby. I gave each guest a piece of fabric. Solid yellow. 8.5" square. Gave them fabric markers and had them write a message on there for the baby, to be made into a quilt. Told them to leave 1" margin all the way around. Had them sign their names, as the baby would know them. Made that into a quilt that was presented at the baby's christening a few months later. Since we didn't know if it would be a boy or girl, I used homespun plaids for the sashing, and small florals for the cornerstones. It was a boy, and his parents love plaid, so that was a good guess. The corner blocks served as the labels. In one corner, I put the baby's name, birth date, time & weight. Another corner, the date of the shower. Another corner, date of the christening. Last corner was my own block for the saying I wanted to write. And I put care instructions on the back, in case the quilt ever ends up in a dorm room. My sister told me that they plan to hang the quilt on the wall. I need to add a hanging sleeve. My sister does not sew much....See MoreMemorial quilt top done (finally)!
Comments (7)Donna, you did a great job designing the memorial quilt. I think the shadows really add so much to a tee shirt quilt. I'm sure your friend will cherish the quilt made in memory of his husband. How kind of you....See MoreAre you quilting this weekend? (Memorial Day) May 24-27
Comments (15)Linda OH, I love you and your DD sew together. Donna, sounds like you have a lot going on. Looking forward to seeing your hunter's star. Theresa, yay for the purging! Go, go, go! Linda, That's a lot of blocks to stitch. What size are they? Kate, would love to see a photo of your progress. I have the swoon quilt on my list, but can't quite wrap my head around the instructions. Think I need to pull it out and have a deep think on it. I finally summoned up the courage to stitch together those Kaffe Fassett 6" squares I've had in my stash. I've sewn two packs so far, with one left. I like how they're turning out, though they are in no particular arrangement at the moment. I hope to finish the last pack today. My other sewing plans are to make some skirts. We've had sunny, upper 90s weather here this week, and the humidity is around 78%. After running errands in that yesterday, I desperately need some breezy summer clothing. I don't wear shorts, and pants won't cut it. It's all about the air flow when it gets this hot and humid! ;) Hope everyone gets their intended projects done this weekend! Happy Quilting Weekend, y'all!...See Moreediej1209 AL Zn 7
