Need help with kitchen/eat in area

We are making small changes to update our kitchen/eat in area without spending a lot. This weekend we painted the eat in area Classic Gray from Benjamin Moore and I love it. The area was yellow, just like the rest of the kitchen. In fact my whole house is yellow. Now I need help with a few details to finish it up!

Here is what I would love some help with...

Rug: SIZE, COLOR, STYLE. The rug that is currently there was purchased for the family room and I moved it into the eat in area just to see colors and size. Is the rug size that is there too small? It is 5.3 x 7.3. Should the rug be darker colors, such as more blacks/dark grays or keep it light. And what about rug style. Should I go more casual with a higher pile? The eat in area measures 12' x 8'.

Light Fixture: COLOR. Should I paint the light that is there? I was thinking about painting the brown sections black and leave the gold. My house was build in 2001 and all fixtures are shiny brass.

Curtains: LENGTH, STYLE. I was thinking about putting up gray curtains but didn't know if I should hang them from the crown molding or at the top of the window? I was going to hang curtains so they framed the double window only. What style curtains would look good. Something simple and plain like sheers or something with a little more personality and casual like tassels or texture?

I would like some fun/casual in the room vs formal.

You might be wondering, what about the rest of the kitchen? While we are taking things slow I am planning to eventually paint and update the rest of the kitchen. Although I am not planning to paint or replace the cabinets. I know I have a lot of wood and orange tones but I don't want to paint the cabinets so I am working with it. We could paint the kitchen sooner than later with the paint we have left from the eat in area. I would be open to any other suggestions for giving the overall kitchen a bump into 2020!

Why hang curtains at all with that million-dollar view? Unless you need privacy, I would leave the windows alone. I can see a bigger rug, but styles are so individual to the person and rest of your home's decor that it is hard for me to comment. I would replace the chandelier if you want a more modern look. If it is only 7 years old I know that is a hard decision, but it would completely transform the space to do a new style there. Give yourself plenty of shopping time as there are so many options for lighting. Both online and in-store shopping may be helpful. You can also research the Houzz discussion forums for recent suggestions.

Wow, sounds like you're trying to juggle a lot! Let's see if we can help.

Rug: Not sure having one in the eating area is essential. It will quickly get dirty & creates awkward movement of the chairs. You have beautiful floors & lots of natural lights - the right curtains would really frame the space nicely.

Light Fixture: Painting the fixture has it's own issues b/w heat & chipping. The color is less the problem than the faux-candle light fixtures. A modern pendant would really spruce up the space.

Curtains: Gray curtains would fade into your color scheme, making them look bland. Look for something more colorful & let your crown moulding be seen!

You don't have to paint the cabinets - an update to fixtures & appliance would go a long way. Possibly the countertop if that's in your budget.

I think I'd be more concerned about the sink and stove being 12 feet from the refrigerator. Where is your prep area? How far is the table from where you store your dishes, and from where you plate food (if you plate in the kitchen) or from where you fill the serving dishes? And from the dishwasher?

I would move the sofa off that wall and make the long end of the sectional be parallel with the kitchen peninsula, so the sofa faces the sliders on the long side. I would get a rectangular dining table to go in between the living room area and the dining kitchen area. The wall with the high windows could use a bookcase, or a console table, a lamp and some colorful art. Some large plants would be good too. You have great light and need some more contrast in your color scheme. See about a stronger color rug and throw pillows if you can. It's a lovely room.

You are fortunate to have a large room! As for the side table next to the sectional, it's not too much if you need it. If someone often sits there, they do need a place to put there drink and/or a snack. Maybe you need the table for a lamp, too. The one you have there now may a bit small, it looks like just the box of tissues takes up the whole table. Before you purchase a new one, why not wait until your area rug comes so you can get a good idea of what type of end table will suit?
