Are you replacing the shingle entryway with siding, too? Is the brown garage staying? What color are the windows going to be?

We are replacing the shingle entry but not with siding...I like the look of the shingles but it needs updating. The windows will be white (that is standard for the company we ordered them from) we can add a trim around the white however. The garage door can also be changed.

You have a lovely place! If you are doing the white cream siding I would keep the black gutter and facia, paint the garage door and entry door a black that matches the gutters add new more modern garage lights. I would keep the shake shingle porch it will provide a nice contrast. Landscaping will make a huge difference too! I think that would modernize your house it will be stunning!

But if you’re open to other ideas I think your house with its architecture and geographic location would be stunning in a dark navy, charcoal or even black like in these examples!

Also should I add shakes anywhere else on the house? For example, by the two small windows on the second story and/or above the garage door by the window shown. You don’t need shakes anywhere else but do leave the ones on the porch as is - they really add a nice texture and contrast. I don’t think you need to add extra trim but if you do paint it the color of the siding. You might consider a more modern entry door also. I noticed all the beautiful trees by your house. Landscaping with some boulders and evergreens would like great around the porch!

Thank you so much. A new door is definitely on the list. As much as I would love to change our siding to navy blue it looks like we are stuck with the white/almond vinyl. It is painfully expensive to do home improvements up here!

Hi Beverly, I’m sorry to see the red go as well! I looked into keeping the red but ease of maintenance and cost over time won out. It is so expensive to do renovations here in Alaska! Thanks for your input :) have a great summer.
