maybe call them and see what they can do to accomodate??? not sure what they can do. I have edgecomb grey in our main living room and like it. I have a very neutral living area without any blue though...

For good flow, it is important to use similar paint in two adjoining rooms with some accents if appropriate. I would not do blue walls with your furniture. SW Sea Salt is great, but you might want something lighter and more off white? It is easier to add color with rugs, pillows and accessories and easier to change in future.

I would also point out that tho’ the couches in your inspiration pics are the same ...the houses are not...they both have lots of windows and natural sunlight...in your case you should look at colors several shades lighter for a similar look

@Flo Mangan so do you think something like picture #1 with the cream color walls would work? I would tackle the picture later depending on how the living room comes out. I agree with using accents to add color in this case, but feel it is important to get the paint color right. Any paint suggestions for doing a lighter color?

@btydrvn good point. its hard to find pictures of comparable homes sometimes. while the 2 photos have bigger windows, my living room does get decent sunlight. we have 2 skylights and a big living room window that the curtains are covering which is equal to about 3 of the panels in the first picture. But even So, yes in sure the lighting will be different Esp since we have window coverings while they don’t have any in that picture. any paint color suggestions?

In photo#1, the warm tones are inviting. Notice how the rug is placed. That’s the way you new rug should be. With this light wall color many looks could be achieved. I would want stronger contrast in accents for example. I will show you. Bbl.

How about a dark charcoal on walls in LR and darker rug in Dining Room with neutral rug and draperies or wooden shades for texture in LR. Accent pillows to harmonize the space. Peppercorn would be my first choice to begin color searching. Disregard mirror, color only for visual. Contrast of a darker color on wall over FP would look great.

If you like the navy, I would do dining room wall in SW Naval or similar. Maybe living room fireplace wall too.

Kjobe I would love to see a photo of the room if you are standing at the fireplace and you get the entire room as well as if you're standing at the window looking into the room. Also one of the dining room. How much light do both the living room and dining room get? I notice the lights are in in the Dining room and wonder if without them it tends to be a dark room?

Some options for the living room

Woven shades would be nice in the room. I think dressing the outside of the windows with drapery panels would warm the room up with the woven shades. I am wondering If the sectional can be moved forward towards the fireplace and about 5" off the wall? This would let the drapes hang nicely and if you could place a sofa console cabinet behind the sofa with a lamp of two on it it would Create an entry for you. It might be too tight to do that its hard to tell from the photo. I would bring the chair in the corner to the left of the fireplace into the room. It looks a bit to gray in color for your other pieces and a cream chair there would brighten up the space. I would hand one large or two square pieces stacked of art to the left of the fireplace. As discussed a new rug that ties everything together as well as the blue cube ottomans and pillows. Have you Tried Pale Oak on your walls yet? This might be a winner for you. Flo will break down the genetic makeup of that paint color for you but I think It could be the neutral you've been looking for. Flo?

Before we go any further with the dining room colors I think you need to choose your living room design and colors. Plus we need to know the direction that window is facing and see a photo of the room. It looks like you have a white accented dining set so it might be fun to go a bit more tan in there and bring in the blue with a fun lighting fixture like this

and some more blue in the window treatments.

@Design Interior South i like the drapery idea. I have been wanting some blinds for awhile now, but keeping 2 curtains on the ends would still dress it up. Our curtains & couch position always get messed up because of the dog so please excuse that! Funny you suggested pale oak. I have a sample paint in that and it looks like a very light white/almost silver in our room. I have attached a better picture of our living room. This is the natural light in the morning, no lights on. It’s the room that gets most natural light. I almost want to call and see uf we can purchase 1 more piece to this sectional to elongate it a bit, but not sure if it’s still available or if it’s costly. As far as the Grey chair in the other corner, the dog chewed the edge of that during her puppy stage so that might be going too Eventually!

the color on the left in both of these pictures is pale oak. To me, it didn’t seem like it went that well. I thought the others which were a little more creamy would go better but Edgecomb gray appeared too dark and too gray. Edgecomb is the darkest amongst these swatches

The sectional is somewhat overwhelming the space due to to the depth and spread on the arms. Before you order another piece I would move it in as I stated above. How long have you had it? The dye lots on the fabrics rarely match well when ordering additional after the fact. I am not sure that is in your best interest.

Go buy some foam poster boards. You can get a 4 pack of 8 x 10's or 11 x 14's. Start painting your paint samples on those and not your wall. Your colors are not coming across true on the wall due to the existing colors etc surrounding them. Paint the entire surface of the board. Let dry. Do a. second coat.

On my screen the Pale Oak looks bright white so if I am seeing that correctly then no its not working. Your sky lights are also playing into this.

@Design Interior South yes that’s how it looks, like a bright white. I prob won’t buy another piece because you are right. Plus I would rather save That money for something else as a single piece would prob still be costly. The couch is only 3yr old but is certainly wearing. I would never buy this material again as it shows water stains, wrinkles easily and is hard to clean. you live and you learn. We can move the couch forward a bit. I don’t think I can really pull this room together until it’s painted Properly Though. If the couch was a little longer I would have even thought of putting it where the fireplace is and swapping that for Where the entry is to make the space bigger. it might look silly like that with the couch we have now though.

DIS is on point. With all the light you have coming in, it will impact any wall color. I would hold off on wall color and figure out what colors you want in the two rooms. Get new rug, and change drapery. Are those panels new? If not, I would return them. They are pretty feminine and could be beautiful in a bedroom. When you find a new rug, that will drive wall colors, pillows etc.

Sea Salt would look great in that rooom....you need a little color. I know it is a color that can vary from green to blue/green to green/gray but would be a good thing in your room. Keep your accessories in muted shades of blues and greens. My daughter has Sea Salt in a den and breakfast nook and kitchen that are open to each other and it is such a great color to work with. She decorates with blues, greens, white, and a bit of apricot.

No, the drapes are pretty old and will be replaced.

@tuesday_2008 sea Salt was suggested before, but it seems like it’s like the color we have in the kitchen right now. I looked it up & Bali is in the kitchen. not sure how similar they are In color. Bali is a bold color, but there isn’t as much wall space in the kitchen so I was ok with the color. Living Room is a lot of wall space so I’m almost afraid to use color! Neutral just seems easier

Dark Knight SW looks pretty in your space with neutral drapes and woven shades for texture. Fast mock up as not perfect but you get a visual. Pillows as I posted earlier and rugs to complete the look. Dining Room in wallpaper to tie the three spaces together.

Dark Night is a beautiful color. Rich and goes with almost any added color. I have used in several times recently and clients love it. So worth trying.

The dark colors are nice, but I think they are too dark for what we are going for. This is a picture of our kitchen we redid to get a better feel of our house. Next time, I’m just going to stick to a more neutral color couch that is more versatile to design around!

How about a beautiful removable wallpaper on that with vaulted wall? There are so many options it would really update the room. You can remove it and get rid of it if you get tired of it, no damage to the wall.

In your pics the floors look very yellow...since you cant change that i would consider a very pale goldish yellow color for the walls...(that goes with the floors)...this will solidify those colors as the foundation of the room...then perhaps match the couch color as perfectly as possible with the sheers and drapes...using more nubby textured organic looking fabrics...this gives you a good background of coordinating neutrals ...then you can add some multicolored elements in the rug and accessories ...as an accent

At this point maybe the grays and blues that you have in the rug and curtain ...with some white added ...can be your accent colors that will coordinate with the kitchen...

This is a tough challenge color wise ...because the sectional is pink in tone and the floor is yellow...and the kitchen is bright white and bluish gray...tough to get these colors to flow together...but they do go together in nature ...which is why i suggest an organic feel in textures and added decor

Adding the bamboo type shades on the living room and kitchen would further that organic feel as well

It looks like a little green in the kitchen..that could be an alternate color for walls and curtains in the living room if it goes with the yellowy floors....

Floors are more of an orange undertone than yellow in person. And I think the couch is a bit orange too. I like the bamboo blinds to add texture.

I don't think you are seeing the colors correctly on your screen btydrvn. The floors are a classic oak with the typical orange undertone. The sectional doesn't have a pink undertone. This is the what makes looking at colors on a screen difficult.

@Flo Mangan are you familiar with SW natural linen or SW neutral ground? I can’t find much online for example pics, any idea if these would be good color matches for a light neutral color?

Ok here’s the scoop on those colors. Neutral Ground has a LRV of 73; Natural Linen 68. So NG would be more reflective but if you want lighter tones neither of these will get you that look. Both are in the Yellow Hue family. NG more yellow than NL. I would either go way lighter or deep color. Medium will be quite boring.

Thanks FLO! I am all over the map with this design though. would gray work at alll? I found this picture Of accessible beige. I know it’s a different house/flooring, just curious if it’s something that would work?

SW Accessible Beige has an LRV of 60. 100 is most reflective (think light and bright) and 0 is non reflective (think darkest). So a 60 means this will read pretty dark in your room. I have used Accessible Beige many times but we have moved away from it because people generally are leaning to either very dramatic looks or very light looks. Your sectional is what looks like a medium caramel color? So pick wall color when you find new rug and we can go from there.

I know you say you want lighter colors but your room has so much light I thought it might help if you saw some ideas that bring a bit more drama and interest. Still neutrals but with a bit more punch.

Opps I forgot to add that Cheetah pillow from the pick you posted. I added interesting art on back wall too. Small pictures of family surrounded by wide white matts and thin black frames.

i am not a pro... but I have similar situation with lighter couches than yours but lots of natural light and light wood floors, tried accessible beige (100%. and 75%), agreeable grey, natural choice, neutral ground, shoji white and one or two others. In process of painting with pearly white at 115%... it's very different than what we had but I really like that it's warm white, but still crisp look and goes well with lots of elements and looks great with my Naval walls in adjacent library and navy accents.. Many of the other colors looked nice during the day but came off pretty dark and more color forward at night even with lighting.

Wondering if a really light gray would work.. I believe thsee pics are gray.

I think it looks nice. I like how the fireplace stone plays against it and doesn't get lost. It really appears to brighten the space up. How are you feeling about it?

I like it more than i thought i would. color will change throughout the day im sure as the lighting in the room changes, so I’m going to keep an eye on it And see how it evolves

I agree with watching it, Know too that the wall to the right is still influencing how the color looks and will even more so once the sun moves off of it.

For perspective, this is the edgecomb gray we initially started painting the house. does This actually go with the couch just fine and I’m just crazy? sometimes it just feels a little off and not quite right, but other times I do like it.

The more gray tones you use, the more brown the sofa will look. So just depends on what look you want.

I looked up Edgecomb Gray and Pale Oak. Edgecomb is less reflective of light than PO. And ECG has significantly more Chroma than PO so it will read more grayed. So if you want light and bright with some grayed look, Pale Oak is good choice. If you want more “grayed” color then ECG is the better choice. The ECG would provide just a bit more contrast to your fireplace stone too.

What about winds breath? Pale oak is turning very gray in my home it looks like. Right is pale oak, left winds breath. I do like the pale oak but maybe it is turning a little too cool toned for the couch
