Here is a fun and rather uplifting way to spend an hour. Here is a lecture given by Ray Bradbury. You may have seen it; it's from2001.

I had all but given up on him as I couldn't take to his books. Disappointing since he's so highly regarded, particularly by Siobhan. All that's changed now. This made me feel enthusiastic more that I have in a long time - not just about writing but about reading and my life in general. Give yourself a treat - the hour whizzes by.

Thanks, Skibby! I love most of his work but don’t know much about him. This may be good to listen to on my walk today!

Dear Noni, Glad you had a fun time!! Sounds like you made quite a haul. Please post photos of your new plants, etc. Sorry to hear about your ankle....ugh! I gave a seminar to several garden clubs in October, "Getting the most out of your amaryllis through the holidays and beyond!". It was fun and the attendees were very interested and surprised that amaryllis could be grown in the ground here with lots of mulching during the cold. It was really exciting for me. I was "pumped up" and several of the ladies came up afterwards and said they could tell that I must really love those bulbs. I felt like I was converting nonbelievers (of the Hippeastrum type!)...and the garden center than had never sold hybrids in the past had a whole slew of Hadeco plants with scapes (for the ripe price of $16) that sold like hotcakes. I have to say, other than the 250 Hadeco bulbs that I bought from BB, most of the ones in pots seemed a little sickly! Mine are doing great and all the spots on leaves have gone away. Leaves are nice and dark green! We could sweep across the country and convert other to love Hippeastrum and hybrids as much as we do! That should be our goal...spread the word! :-) Kristi

I have all the sports channels and news channels blocked on my TV. If I need to know about something, someone will tell me. If you need someone to make drapes, Roman shades, slip covers, evening gowns, or casual wear, then I can help you, although it's been a few years since I have made a dress. BTW, men in Los Angeles are NOT from Mars!! Neptune, maybe. That Mars thing about men made no sense to me at all. Stereotypes are seldom valid and generally counterproductive, from my experience. When I read that Ray Bradbury had died, my twenty-three year old daughter asked who he was. I listed off several of his books. When I told her Something Wicked This Way Comes was one of those books that stay with you, she looked it up with her Kindle. One of the first reviews of the book said the same thing. She is ready to dive into Bradbury now.

I read a lot of Ray Bradbury in my early teen years, especially the short stories. I went off him after reading The Martian Chronicles. One of the stories in the collection had previously been published with a different ending, but he had re-written it to fit the story arc better. In my judgmental teenaged mind, I thought he cheated, and never quite forgave him. I might be more forgiving these days. After all, I no longer remember which story of the collection it was.

No, probably not. I'm still a bit judgmental.

P.S. It was the final story "The Million Year Picnic". Originally published in 1946, it made its way into an 1948 anthology called Invasion from Mars: Interplanetary Stories, which I found in a used book sale. Altered in 1950 to fit better into The Martian Chronicles.

I guess I can forgive him. Fifty years is a long time to hold a grudge. It may be that he tinkered with this story a couple times, because I have just now just read two different versions and I keep thinking of other different details. Of course it could be scrambled memory.
