Alexa here. Currently living in beautiful Bucks County, PA. I grew up in Maine, just a hop north of Nancy Louise, in a lovely little town called Ogunquit. I have spent most of my life in one or the other, divorced parents - spent a lot of time moving back and forth between Southern Main and Eastern PA. I spent a couple of years in Portsmouth, NH and would love to end up back there someday but I married a hot house flower from the south who said this part of PA is plenty far north for him.

I still get back to Ogunquit a few times a year to visit friends and will always consider it "home".

You folks in LUTZ Florida, why is it pronouced "LOOTS"? That is my maiden name and I was Lutz pronounced like "LUTZ". It must be weird being a Lutz living in "LOOTS"? LOL

Karen, I have a friend - Judy Lutz from Loots! It was named after William Paul Lutz, an engineer on the Tampa Northern Railroad. It's his fault because he pronounced his name Loots.

Trivia: "Edward Scissorhands" was filmed in Lutz.

Kansas City, for the last 15 years. Oh wow...Has it really been that long? Before that, the central valley in CA (Visalia) for 7 years. I'm a Kansas girl, completely midwestern all the way.

Lisa, born, raised and still live in Chelsea, MA. And unless I hit the lottery and can build my dream mansion this is where I'll probably remain!! I usually just say Boston when asked where I'm from - it's easier than trying to explain Chelsea. At one point, we were almost annexed as part of Boston. We're almost like another Boston neighborhood - very inner city and very urban, but with certain, more suburban areas with big yards (like my house). We're one of the smallest, if not the smallest, and poorest cities in MA, but it's one of the best places to live! Considering the entire city is roughly 1.8 square miles, there are a huge variety of "flavors" from neighborhood to neighborhood. You don't get to Boston from the North without passing thru Chelsea. You start crossing "the Bridge" as it's known here, in Chelsea, and finish crossing in Boston. The only drawback to living here is that our surrounding communities seem to feel it's ok to trash talk and look down on us all the time. I've been listening to it since I was a school kid, and at 48 I still get the ocassional snide comment when I mention where I live. Of course what they don't know is we keep up the rumors on purpose - to keep the true riff-raff out lol!!

We're an "immigrant" city, starting out as Italian, Polish, Irish, and Jewish and are now mostly Central and South Americans, Southeast Asians, with a smattering of Russians, Ukrainians, Bosnians, Somalians, and many, many others. School notices come home in nine languages and at times it's like living at the UN there are so many cultures here - and everyone gets along as well!! It's amazing that we have virtually no cultural or racial clashes - it's pretty cool. You can find any kind of cuisine and any unusual food ingredients you could think of here. And of couse, in less than 5 minutes you can be in Boston with all that has to offer! Plus I work in Boston, so I'm here all the time!

Joe S. (REAL name: Giuseppe Luigi Pasquale S.; really!; on St. Patrick's day, I become Joseph Louis Patrick S., with my last name being old Celtic).

Born in San Diego, California. Left at the age of 25 to move to San Francisco where I stayed about 4 years (and studied Chinese cuisine). Then was transferred to Los Angeles (studied Latin food) where I got tired of California.

So I moved as culturally far away as I could -- to northern Wisconsin. A little town called Crivitz -- 1-1/4 hour straight north (not NE to Door County) of Green Bay. Studied, um, err, ah, cheese. And sausage. 7 winters and I went to Illinois for 2 years, living in St. Charles and Wheaton.

After that, moved to South Carolina, to Greenwood. Two hot muggy summers there and I left for Pennsylvania. Lived in Chalfont, Bucks County. Found two of the best Italian restaurants in the world in Doylestown. And one of the best Mexican restaurants anywhere. Two years there.

And 13 or so years ago, I moved back to California, to the Central Coast, where I've lived in Santa Maria, Orcutt and now Pismo Beach.

Whew, I'm, tried. I feel like a military brat. The seed industry is very much like that -- a game of musical chairs. I'm sorry I didn't get an opportunity to live in a foreign country. Morocco sounds very nice.

Lou you can still sing GRANADA the same way way as that's how the name of that city has always been pronounced in Spain. It hasn't changed.

However there's the other place in the Caribbean which is spelled GRENADA and pronounced as you mention by the News People LOL.

And the plural of Moose can't be Meese because those are the little things that run along the floor, get into your cupboards and eat cheese LOL!

Yes, I was Director of Product Development and Director of the Wholesale Division for Park's when I was there. I got down to Myrtle Beach (Pawley's Island) and Edisto Island many times.

In Illinois, I worked for Ball Seed; in PA, I worked for Burpee and here in California, I worked for Environmental Seed Producers (wildflower seeds).

Is Park Seed still a viable company? I know they've been bought out twice in the last few years.

That is very interesting, Joe! I started gardening 15 years ago and from that point on, became somewhat obsessed with gardening. Cooking is great too but not nearly as fascinating to me as plants. Although I'm not very concerned about growing anything edible!
I have no idea who owns Park Seed. I've always heard that they own Wayside Gardens but I have no idea who their parent company is.
I live about 2 hours away from Greenwood near the mountains and still hot and humid.

sushipup: I never SOLD anything to anyone in the Salinas Valley. But as Director of Product Development, I worked closely with the many flower and vegetable seed breeders from Morgan Hill and Gilroy to San Juan Bautista to find new varieties.

bb: Park Seed was the parent company of Wayside Gardens. There was/is no parent of Park. I heard rumors that the newest owners of Park were about to shut it down completely.

Re: Park Seed. I was there a few days ago and it had the 'feeling' that it might be going out of business. Not the same, vibrant business that I have known over the years.
Wayside Gardens has opened a retail discount outlet in Greenwood, SC. not too far from Park Seeds. Anyone within driving distance should make the trip. Terrific bargains on plants/roses, iron gates and arches, books and many its catalog items plus more.
