FILM & DVD RELEASE
Eames: The Architect and the Painter
Best remembered for their iconic mid-century plywood and fiberglass furniture, the husband-and-wife team of Charles and Ray Eames are widely regarded as being among America’s most important designers of the 20th century.
Filmmakers Jason Cohn and Bill Jersey have produced the first film dedicated to the couple after their death. Narrated by James Franco, the film captures the less widely known and understood aspects of their lives and the diverse products produced by the Eames Office, or the "Eamery."
Their design portfolio includes splints for wounded military during World War II, photography, interiors, multi-media exhibits, films, toys and more. The film explores and follows their personal lives and influence on significant events in American life — from the development of modernism, to the rise of the computer age.
Watch a trailer of the film, and see if it's coming to a city near you. Pre-order an advance copy of the DVD. (Expected ship date: Dec. 1, 2011).
