Design Dilemma- update exterior colour scheme for curb appeal
Comments (11)If the goal is to upgrade the curb appeal, I would look to landscaping because your house colours are mostly working as is. That said, you're showing the Gentek samples which I'm assuming are for the soffit. The soffit doesn't actually show so I'm not sure why you're starting there. They help bounce light into your windows, so going with the lightest colour that goes with your lightest bricks (NOT white) would be a direction for the soffits. The door and siding are an entirely different matter. The brown that you have now on the siding goes perfectly with the darkest brown bricks. Just refresh it. The thing that looks out of place is the overly white vinyl windows and door. I'm guessing the windows can not be painted so that leaves the door . (If the windows could be painted, a beige colour that tied back into the brick would be the idea. ) The front door could/should be a different colour than the siding. The natural wood tone suggested by Freedomplace1 would work with your brick if you changed the door, but probably not as a paint colour. What were you thinking for the door?...See MoreDilemma: Exterior house paint colors
Comments (7)I think your home is pretty eye-popping now, I would definitely be slowing my stroll to get a better look, but I can understand wanting a cheerier color if your environs tend to be pretty grey. The current color scheme does seem to suit the surroundings. Is there a color you are leaning towards? Would you want the whole house to be the same color or have color-blocking as you currently do? Are the windows to be painted? What colors are "cheery" to you? When I first saw your house a forest green came to mind....See MoreDilemma: Exterior paint color to downplay pink/orange brick
Comments (15)I guess I didn't say that I am trying to deemphasize the brick. Not sure if you can tell from the photo but they are Roman style bricks, lacking the interesting dark colors and white stain of more traditional flat brick. It seems like blues and greys would make those bright pink and orange tones pop. My original thinking was white with dark accents. But I do like the dark exterior colors that are popular now. I worry that the dark colors will just make the bright pink/orange really stand out. Ultimately I guess I am looking for the house to look fresh without changing the good bones that it has. I am trying to embrace the look of the brick. Someone want to talk about how to tone down the brick without painting it?...See MoreExterior Paint Color Dilemma
Comments (37)You have gotten a lot of ideas from your post! I do not have a cape, nor do I live in the South. Here is what I would do. I LOVE the idea of the peach/pinkyorange concept for the front door. It will set your home just a bit apart from the crowd. I would do the body of the house in a soft pale ivory, not bright white. It will work well with the front door, and speak to the roof color, while not accenting the roof. The shutters would look good in a Taupe Grey, a deep tone to work with the black windows, but not bold black. Possibly SW's Westchester Gray. I also love the idea of the large exterior lights at the front door. They bring attention to where the door is. I would paint the storm door the same color as the front door, to bring continuity. Post pics when you complete this!...See MoreMarylee H
